국문 초록 (Abstract)

구스타프 말러(Gustav Mahler, 1860~1911)는 후기 낭만파시대의 대표적인 인물이며 또한 독일 가곡사에 있어 커다란 의의를 남긴 작곡가이자, 근대음악에 이르는 과도기적 역할을 한 후기 낭만주의의 대표적인 작곡가이다.
본 논문에서는 말러의 자작시로 된 연가곡 “방랑하는 젊은이의 노래”<Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen>를 연구하고자 한다. 이 작품은 그의 가곡 중에서도 가장 젊음이 넘치는 민요풍의 소박한 멜로디와 투명한 음색을 나타내고 있으며 전통적인 형식에 얽매이지 않고 시적 내용에 의해 자율적인 형식을 사용하고 있다.
4곡으로 이루어진 이 가곡은 민속적인 요소를 바탕으로 가사의 내용과 곡의 형식이 부합되는 장, 단조를 자유롭게 혼용하며, 자유롭게 응용 발전시킴으로써 선율의 통일성을 유지하였고, 반음계적 요소가 많이 나타나 조성을 흐리게 하여 한 곡 안에서 계속적인 전조현상이 나타남으로써 후기 낭만주의의 범조적인 형태의 조성파괴 현상이 나타나며, 또한 가곡이 민요적이며 동양적인 요소에 의해 쓰여 지고 있음을 볼 수 있다.
이렇듯 말러는 고전주의를 흡수하고 후기 낭만주의의 새로운 기법을 실험 사용한 과도기적 작곡가인 만큼 이 작품 속에도 이러한 양상이 공존하고 있는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Gustav Mahler(1860~1911)a composer, was representative of later romantic music as well as remarkably influenced German songs.
In the paper, I studied “Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen” which is a song of his own poem. It is coveys the folk song melody and written liberally instead of a traditional form, through the words of the song.
The song is composed of four pieces and based on folk song. The content of the words correspond with the form of the song. In the song, not only major and minor key are freely mixed, but also the sequential development of major and minor second is freely applied to keeep the unity of melody. The song contains frequent chromatic scale elements and it results in ambiguous composition. Consequently, that causes a subsequent modulation in one melody which is a tonal destruction phenomenon of the later romantic music. It reveals that his son was written based on folk song, and oriental factors.
Mahler is a transitional composer, and experimented new methods of the post-romanticism at the same time. Such two qualities of him are coexisted in this music of Mahler.
