제8의 예술 = The 8th art : documentary film production notes

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 작품은 연출자 본인이 동의대학교 대학원 영화·영상콘텐츠학과와 프랑스 국립 귀스타브 에펠 대학 (구 파리-에스트 대학) 웹문화기술대학원 간석사과정 복수학위 취득을 위해 연출한 다큐멘터리 영화이다.
이 작품은 다큐멘터리 영화로, 한국의 게임 문화를 모티프로 연출자 본인이 프랑스인 유학생으로서 경험하고 느낀 한국 사회의 다양한 양상을 담아내고 있다. 또한, 연출자 본인의 게임에 관한 남다른 관심과 이를 바탕으로 한국의 독특한 사회문화적 특성을 사회학적 관점에서 다루고 있다.
한국과 프랑스의 사회문화적 차이를 경쟁과 청년 세대가 느끼는 성공에 대한 강박을 중심으로 다루고자 하였다. 특히, 한국에서 유학을 하고 있는 연출자와 프랑스에서 유학 중인 두 명의 한국인 친구들 사이의 토론을 바탕으로 한다. 공식적 인터뷰보다는 생생하고 자연스러운 토론의 형식으로 대화를 진행했다. 연출자는 두 한국인 친구들에게 그들의 청년 시절, 군 복무, 한국 사회에 관한 그들의 인식에 관한 질문들을 통해 두 사회의 차이점과 공통점을 비교적 관점에서 논의하고자 했다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This work is my graduation film for obtention of Dual Master’s Degree
between Department of Cinema & Audiovisual Contents of Graduate School
at Dong-eui University and Master Cultures et Métiers du Web at Gustave
Eiffel University (formerly Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée University). In this
documentary film, I attempted to recreate and represent my memories of the
year 2020 I experienced and felt as a French student in Korea.
With the Korean game culture as a motif, this documentary film captures
various aspects of Korean society that the director himself experienced and
felt as a French student in Korea. In addition, this film deals with the
director's extraordinary interest in games and the unique socio-cultural
characteristics of Korea from a sociological perspective.
What intrigues me the most is the fact the culture difference between
France and Korea, especially in term of competitiveness and pressure on the
youth. This documentary film focusses on a discussion between me and two
Korean friends who live in France for their studies. I asked them several
questions about their youth, the military service and their feelings. I wanted
this documentary film to look like a raw and natural discussion rather than
an interview because I wanted to allow them to talk freely about their past
and feelings and to not be restricted by the limits than an interview give.
