The home that wanted to leave children in the care of nursery school increased because of social changes, increase of dual income family and governmental support of child-care expenses, etc. The nursery school provided children with a variety of child-care programs to have qualitative difference depending upon its types, so that the parents might have different selection factors of the school.
In this study, eight of nursery schools at Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do were selected to collect 250 copies from parents. The study investigated the material by t-test and ANOVA. SPSS for Window 12.0 was used.
The parents' opinions were likely to be reflected to manage facility and to supply basic material improving quality levels: The findings were as follows:
Firstly, when selecting a nursery school, the parents thought much of snack and meal quality. In the study, these days, the children were more interested in meal so that the parents thought much of children's snack and meal quality more than child-care programs.
Secondly, selection of nursery school varied depending upon the parents' background:
1. The parents in their forties or more thought much of human environment more than the ones in their thirties did. The parents thought much of human environment depending upon types of nursery school that children currently attended: In other words, The parents whose children attended private nursery school thought much of human environment more than the ones whose children attended either national and public nursery school or nursery school managed by religious corporation did.
2. Physical environment factors such as gender, age, educational background, occupation, monthly income, number of children and age of children, etc had no significant difference. However, the parents whose children currently attended private nursery school thought much of physical environment.
3. The parents who had two or more children thought much of general operation of nursery school. And, the ones who had 5 to 6 years old children thought much of general operation of nursery school.
4. The parents who were older or had no job thought much of child-care process. The parents who had two children or had 5 to 6 years old children or children attending either private nursery school or nursery school managed by religious corporation thought much of child-care process.
5. Fathers, the parents in their twenties and the ones whose children attended social welfare corporation thought much of parents education.
Thirdly, the parents selected nursery school as follows:
51.2% of the parents selected a nursery school after visit. Most of the parents visited one or more of nursery school. 36% of the parents visited no nursery school and 54.44% of them selected a nursery school owing to good reputation. 45.2% of the parents had difficulties at shortage of information on nursery school.
The study examined selection factors of nursery school to improve quality of the factors of the parents.
