연인관계에서의 휴대전화 이용에 관한 연구 = (A) study on the pattern of cellular phone use between two lovers

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 휴대전화의 이용을 연인관계라는 특수한 대인관계를 중심으로 살펴보고자 한 연구이다. 휴대전화가 다른 대인커뮤니케이션 채널들과 가장 뚜렷하게 구분되는 점은 개인에게 '속해 있다(belong to)'는 점이다. 이용자에게 속해 있어 이용자와 함께 이동하고 그로 말미암아 이용자가 커뮤니케이션에 대한 절대적인 통제권을 갖고 있다는 사실이 다른 여타의 매체들과 뚜렷이 구분되는 점이다. 이 때문에 휴대전화를 통한 커뮤니케이션은 완전한 사적 특성이 확보되고 언제 어디서나 즉각적이고 직접적인 커뮤니케이션이 가능하다. 이러한 장점들로 인해 다른 어떤 대인관계보다도 연인관계에서 휴대전화가 활발하게 이용될 수 있는 것이다.
연구문제로 삼은 것은 '연인관계의 발전 정도에 따라 휴대전화 이용량과 패턴이 어떻게 달라지는가'였다. 연인관계의 발전 정도는 직접적인 연인 단계의 측정과 함께 관여, 친밀도, 만족도 등의 간접적인 변인을 통해서도 살펴보았다. 또한 이 측정치들을 다시 휴대전화 이용과 관련지어 살펴보았다. 휴대전화의 이용량은 총통화량, 통화횟수, 문자메시지 이용횟수 등을 통해 다양하게 측정하였다. 또한 각 단계별로 관여, 친밀도, 만족도 등이 어떻게 변하는가를 살펴보고 관계노출의 정도가 이들 변인들과 어떠한 관련을 보이는지 살펴보았다.
연구 결과를 요약하면 크게 다음의 다섯 가지로 정리될 수 있다. 첫째, 연인관계에는 단계가 있으며 각 단계별로 휴대전화의 이용량과 패턴은 달라진다. 특히 발전기에는 휴대전화의 이용량이 현저하게 많으며 긴 통화의 횟수가 많고 하루 중 가장 긴 통화의 시간이 길다. 둘째, 관여, 만족도, 친밀도는 휴대전화의 이용량과 정적 상관관계를 맺고 있다. 특히 관여와 만족도는 긴 통화와 관련되어 있고 친밀도는 짧은 통화와 관련되어 있다. 셋째 관여, 만족도는 연인에게 전화를 건 횟수와, 친밀도는 연인과의 송수신 횟수 모두와 관련이 있다. 넷째, 관계노출의 정도는 연인관계가 발전함에 따라 대체로 증가하며 만족도, 친밀도, 관여와 관련성을 갖고 있다. 다섯째, 발전기에는 관여와 만족도가 최고조에 이르며 친밀도는 성숙기에 최고조에 이른다. 만족도는 매우 쉽게 변하는 반면 친밀도는 이탈기에도 상당 부분 유지된다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study begins with the purpose of exploring the pattern of cellular phone use between two lovers. A noticeable difference with the cellular phone to other interpersonal communication medium is the fact that cellular phones belong to the user themselves. Cellular phones belong to the user and are carried everywhere by the users. Therefore each user has total control over their own cell phone. Each user can make their communications privately, immediately, directly, and constantly with the cell phone. These merits are the main reasons why lovers use cell phones more than any other interpersonal relationships.
The research question of the study was "how is the change of pattern in cell phone use as the level of relationship changes? " The level of relationship was measured with direct questions, involvement, intimacy and satisfaction with in the couple. These measurements were matched with the use of the cell phones. The use of cell phones were measured in terms of total amount of time on the cell phone, the total number of phone calls, the total number of SMS(short message service) used. With each level of relationship, involvement, intimacy and satisfaction was measured and its effect was monitored.
The findings of the study can be summarized into the following five things. First, a level of relationship exist between lovers and the use of cell phones and its pattern differ with each level. Specially in the developing phase of the couple the amount of cell phone use is very high and there are a number of long lasting calls. Second, the involvement, satisfaction and intimacy are related to the use of the cell phone. Involvement and satisfaction are related to the long lasting calls and the intimacy is related to the short phone calls. Third, satisfaction is related to the number of phone calls made, and intimacy is related to both the number of calls made and the number of calls received. Forth, the level of relationship disclosure rises with the development of the couples relationship and is related to involvement, satisfaction and closeness. Finally, involvement and satisfaction are at its peak in the
developing phase of the relationship and intimacy is high during the maturing phase of the relationship. Satisfaction does tend to change easily but on the other hand intimacy tends to remain even during the deviating phase of the relationship.
