A number of evidence is being found that the climate change has been occurring worldwide, including South Korea. In response to this climate change occurring in Korean peninsula, analyses on climate are currently being conducted, focused around metropolitan cities. However, research on the characteristics of southeast major cities's climate, which is broadening its importance on atmospheric environmental perspective, is not being conducted compared to the ones done on other cities.
In the present study, the climate change data from 2004 to 2013, such as temperature, humidity, precipitation rate, wind velocity, wind direction, and others, have been analyzed. The differences between the climate change trend of southeast major cities(Busan, Ulsan, Daegu, Pohang) were analyzed through comparisons.
Also, southeast major cities cannot be free form the problem of PM10 concentration. PM10 is being raised as the primary environmental pollutant that threatens people's health and causes diseases. southeast major cities are regions that have unusual weather conditions and multiple pollutants; therefore, identifying the current status of PM10 emission is crucial for the efficient management of air quality and maintenance of citizens' health. Accordingly, the present study also focused on the change trend of PM10.
The humidity and precipitation rate for Daegu, a city located inland, was far lower than other coastal cities such as Pohang, Ulsan and Busan. Temperature increase was predicted to occur; however, in the present study, no temperature increase was shown. In addition, all four regions showed similar temperature aspects. Wind velocity and wind direction have geological characteristics, resulting in all four areas showing different figures.
The result of analyzing the PM10 yearly average concentration of Pohang region showed that the PM10 concentration is high in concentration. Therefore, more active improvement of atmospheric air quality environment is required in order to reduce the PM10 concentration.
The detailed analysis on southeast major cities's weather conditions provided in the present study can further be utilized as basic and confirming materials for understanding and predicting the atmospheric environment of southeast major region. Furthermore, more analyses on southeast major cities's PM10 characteristics will further contribute to the future research on southeast major cities's weather conditions.
