청소년 초기 및 중기의 생애목표와 자아정체감의 종단적 관계 = A Longitudinal Relationship between Life Goals and Self-Identity in Early and Middle Adolescence

This study aims to examine the longitudinal stability and reciprocal relationship of life goals and self-identity among adolescents and to investigate the developmental difference of relationships between the elementary school cohort and the middle school cohort. From the Korean Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS) 2010, I extracted 7th, 9th and 10th graders from the elementary school cohort and 9th, 11th graders and college freshmen from the middle school cohort.
I then employed an autoregressive cross-lagged model (ACLM) to test autoregressive effects of within-variables and cross-lagged effects of between-variables. All the assumptions for invariance of ACLM were satisfied, and the fit indexes displayed the hypothesized model which fit the data.
Results demonstrated that first of all, life goals and self-identity were found to be stable over time, but the autoregressive coefficients of self-identity were greater than those of life goals.
Secondly, for the elementary school cohort, cross-lagged effects of life goals and self-identity were statistically significant, representing a reciprocal relationship among variables. However, for the middle school cohort, self-identity in 9th grade positively predicted subsequent life goals in 11th grade and self-identity in 11th grade positively predicted subsequent life goals in college freshmen, while life goals did not significantly predict later self-identity. From this it can be interpreted that for middle and later adolescents, self-identity is more likely to influence the perceptions of life goals than for early adolescents.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 한국아동·청소년패널조사(KCYPS) 2010의 초4패널(N=2,378)과 중1패널(N=2,351) 자료에서 생애목표와 자아정체감의 시간에 따른 안정성과 상호예측력을 통해 그 관계를 살펴보고, 또한 이러한 관계가 청소년기 초반과 중반에서 어떠한 차이를 보이는지를 탐색하였다. 따라서 초4패널에서는중1, 중3, 고1 시점에서, 중1패널에서는 중3, 고2, 대1 시점에서 생애목표와 자아정체감 변수를 추출한뒤, 자기회귀교차지연 모형을 통해 동일한 변수 내에서 어느 정도 안정성을 가지고 있는가를 살펴보는자기회귀효과와, 상이한 변수 간에 어느 정도 예측력을 가지고 있는가를 살펴보는 교차지연효과를 확인하였다. 연구모형을 검증하기 위한 가정인 동일성 제약들은 모두 충족되었다. 연구 결과 첫째, 초4패널과 중1패널 모두 생애목표와 자아정체감은 3시점에 걸쳐 안정적으로 유지되고 있었으나 그 상대적크기는 자아정체감의 자기회귀계수가 생애목표의 자기회귀계수보다 컸다. 둘째, 초4패널의 경우 이전시점의 생애목표는 다음 시점의 자아정체감을 정적으로 예측하고, 이전 시점의 자아정체감이 다음 시점의 생애목표를 정적으로 예측하는 교호적 관계를 보였으나 중1패널의 경우 이전 시점의 자아정체감만이 다음 시점의 생애목표를 정적으로 예측하였다. 논의에서 이러한 발달적 차이는 청소년기 후반으로 갈수록 자아정체감이 생애목표를 인식하게 하는데 영향을 주기 때문이라고 해석하고 그 근거를 제시하였다.
