The increasing number of the elderly has come to make health of them a social problem, and thereby interests of people in health of the elderly have been raised, and recently interests in oral health also have been increasing. As age gets higher, oral health gets deteriorated, but the cure rate is decreasing today, so governments are making constant efforts to improve oral health of the elderly. Presently, oral health service for the elderly is being implemented to improve oral health of the elderly, and the purpose of this study is to learn how much the subjects, the elderly, understand this business, examine the needs of oral health service for the elderly, and suggest realistic measures. The measures for oral health service for the elderly obtained from this study are as follows. First, it is required to convert our perspective to consider oral health of the elderly as a social problem. 국문 초록 (Abstract)

노인의 급격한 증가는 노인건강을 사회적 문제로 만들었으며, 그에 따라 노인들의 건강에 대한 관심이 높아졌으며, 최근에는 구강건강에 대한관심도 증가하고 있는 추세다. 연령이 높아질수록 구강건강은 악화되지만 치료율은 낮아지고 있어 노인들의 구강건강증진에 대한 정부의 노력도 계속되어지고 있다.현재 노인의 구강건강을 증진시키기 위해서 노인구강보건사업을 전개하고 있는데 그 사업의 대상인 노인들이 사업을 어느 정도 이해하고 있는지 또한 노인구강보건사업에 욕구는 무엇인지 알아보고 현실적인 방안을제안하고자 본 연구를 실시하였다. 첫째, 노인의 구강보건의 문제를 사회적인 문제로 전환하는 인식의 변화가 요구된다. 둘째, 노인의 구강건강 증진을 위한 예방적 측면을 강조하기 위한 노인 구강보건사업의 연령의 확대가 요구된다. 셋째, 개별의 노인의 구강보건 욕구에 맞는 구강보건사업의 맞춤형 서비스가 필요하다. 넷째, 노인의 구강보건사업의 지속적인 시행을 위한 법적 근거를 마련하여 보다 효과적인 노인구강보건사업을 실시를 유인할 필요가 있다. 다섯째, 노인구강보건사업을 전담할 수 있는 안정적인 부서의 마련 또한 시급하다. 여섯째, 노인구강보건사업 시행을 위한 전문 인력 양성으로 노인들의 욕구에 맞는 사업을 시행 할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 지금까지 노인의 구강보건사업은 일방적 서비스 제공이었다. 그러나 노인들의 지적 수준이나 복지에 대한 기대치가 높아져 가고 있는 만큼 소통이 가능하고, 그들의 욕구를 충족시킬 만한 서비스 제공이 불가피해졌다. 따라서 앞으로의 발전 방향은 복지적 개념이 포함된 노인구강보건사업으로 개발시켜야 할 것이다.
