This study aims to construct a process-genre integrated teaching model for business Korean email writing suitable for Chinese university learners of Korean. Focusing on the highly standardized and purposeful professional genre of business emails, the study integrates genre-based teaching methods and process writing theory, proposing a three-dimensional integrated framework of “genre explicitness, process evidence-based approach, and organizational standardization.“ Empirical analysis of a questionnaire survey of working professionals revealed significant difficulties learners faced in four areas: structural awareness, functional sequence, honorific use, and the writing process itself. For example, missing headings and closing paragraphs, inconsistent levels of honorifics, and a general lack of pre-writing planning, feedback, and revision processes were observed. These issues indicate that a purely outcome-oriented teaching approach is insufficient to support learners in generating compliant and appropriate email texts within an organizational context.
Based on this, Chapter Four of this study designs a specific teaching plan, using the “structural shell“ (heading - salutation - introduction - body - closing - signature) and the “functional core“ (request - announcement - reply) as genre scaffolding, and introducing process-oriented tools such as “pre-writing planning sheets,“ “peer evaluation forms,“ and “revision checklists“ to visualize and document the writing cycle. The teaching evaluation employed a four-dimensional integrated scale encompassing genre, politeness, organization, and process, based on multiple drafts and process archives.
The results indicate that this model effectively enhances learners' structural awareness, politeness, and adherence to organizational norms in business contexts, promoting reflective and transferable writing. Finally the paper discusses the pedagogical significance and limitations of this study and proposes directions for further application of the “process-genre integration method“ in future business Korean email writing education.
