홀리스틱 생태 교육이 초등학교 저학년 아동의
생명 존중 의식에 미치는 영향



본 연구는 초등학교 아동의 생명 존중 의식을 향상시키기 위하여 슬기로운 생활의 생태 관련 단원에 홀리스틱 생태교육을 실시하고 초등학교 저학년에게 미치는 영향을 조사하는 데 그 목적을 두었다.

이 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 홀리스틱 생태 교육에 대한 이론과 문헌 연구, 선행 연구 사례의 고찰을 통하여 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 두었다.
1. 홀리스틱 생태 학습을 어떻게 설계할 것인가?
2. 홀리스틱 생태 학습을 어떻게 적용할 것인가?
3. 홀리스틱 생태 학습 적용이 아동의 생명 존중 인식에 어떤 변화를 일으킬 것인가? 이다.

이러한 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 연구의 대상은 파주시 W 초등학교 1학년 2개반을 연구 대상으로 하여 각각 실험 집단과 비교 집단으로 나누었다. 실험 처치는 2011년 6월부터 10월까지 실험 집단에게 홀리스틱 생태학습을 적용하였다.

실험 처치의 효과는 실험이 끝난 후 두 집단의 학생들을 대상으로 실시한 생명존중 의식 설문지 점수의 차이로 검증하였다. 이때 사용한 검사 도구는 사전과 사후가 동일하며, 연구에서 얻어진 자료들은 SPSSWIN 18.0 통계 처리 프로그램을 이용하여 처리하였다. 또한 정성적 평가를 위해 수업 적용 후 학생의 녹색 학습 일기와 생태 소양 학습 활동 후의 면담 자료 등을 정리하였다.

이 연구를 통하여 연구자가 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다.
첫째, 1학년 교육과정에서 생태 관련 내용을 추출하고 홀리스틱 학습이 필요한 학습 내용을 추출하여 아동이 자연과 생명에 대해 흥미와 관심을 갖도록 하였다.
둘째, 초등학교 입문기인 1학년 학생에게 생명에 대한 친화적 태도를 신장하여 생명을 존중하는 지식과 가치, 행동의 유의미한 향상을 보여주었다.

이상의 연구 결과를 종합해 보면 홀리스틱 생태 교육은 저학년 아동에게 생명의 소중함을 알고, 생활 속에서 실천하도록 하여 생명존중 지식과 가치, 행동의 전 영역에 걸쳐 긍정적인 효과를 나타냈다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 교사는 초등학교 아동의 생명 존중 의식 향상을 위하여 체계적이고 교육적인 생태학습을 설계하고, 전학년에 걸친 학습 모형 개발이 이루어져야겠다.

Effects of the Holistic ecological education
on the Recognition of the Life respect
in the lower grades elementary students

This study was intended to examine how holistic ecological education affected on the Recognition on the life respect of the 1st grades in elementary students.
Study questions were as follows:
1. How can I design holistic ecological education program?
2. How can I apply holistic ecological education program?
3. Do the holistic ecological education program affect the recognition on the life respect?

For this study, the program was carried out from June to October at W elementary school located in Paju , for 60 the lower students ( experiment group comprised of 30 students, and comparison group comprised of 30 students) who were 1st grades in elementary school.
To validate the research issues put forth in this study, the life respect recognition was tested before and after the experiment. And T-test and analysis of covariance were carried out to estimate the average and standard deviation of the experiment and the comparison group and examined the difference of effect between both groups for the statistical data treatment and analysis, SPSSWIN 18.0, a statistical program, was used. In addition, for qualitative evaluation, I summarized students reports and interview in holistic ecological program activities.

The results of this study were as follows:
First, the contents of holistic ecological education program provided for 1st graders to interest about nature and life.
Second, the result of the application of holistic ecological education program for 1st graders in elementary showed to be effective an affective factors which could contribute to cultivate life respect knowledge, life respect value, life respect behavior.

In conclusion, the holistic ecological education provided the recognition on the life respect for the lower grades in elementary students. Therefore, teachers need to design systematic educational courses in order to improve the life respect education of students and studies should be carried out holistic ecological program for all graders in elementary school.
