현대 조형예술의 표현매체로 활용된 레이스의 비교 고찰 = A Comparative Study on the Use of Lace as a Medium of Expression in Modern Plastic Arts

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This work examined the application examples of lace as a medium of expression in the modern plastic arts including architecture and interior, installation works, art crafts and fashion. The paper reconsidered the position of lace as an extended expressive device, beyond the realm of a fashion material and assisting with extension of expression range in developing creative design. Literature review and empirical data analysis were carried out together on lace applied as a medium of expression in the modern plastic arts for the research method. It was found from research that the traditional lace indicated a new analytic interpretation in the modern formative art works, breaking the fixed concept of being a fabric related only to clothing and giving it several characteristics in terms of its structure, technique, and pattern that were expressed in the artworks. Also, as it was applied based on the expression of traditional lace, it showed common expressive characteristics in terms of spatial transparency, ornamentation with line and pattern, an artistic handicraft nature, variable formativeness with overlap, and transboundary features as an extended object, and introduced a new creative perspective toward lace.
