This study is aimed at developing tight-fitting shape one piece prototype pattern for ready-made clothes in consideration of the characteristic of body type of women in their twenties wearing a C cup that has recently increased with westernized body type, and utilizing it as reference pattern for pattern design of various one piece items.
Findings of this study are as follows:
First, in the 6th Size Korea(2010) using 3D body scan data, among 208 adult women in their twenties, crosstabulation analysis was conducted for 9 body types, which were categorized by cup size and Choi Jee-young's drop from 168 women of standard body type who fell under 18.5 ~23 of BMI, and C cup body type of HH type(6.9%) and A cup body type of AN type(37.5%) as control group were selected and analyzed with Z-score. C cup body type of HH type is more bent back than A cup body type of AN type, while C cup body type of HH type is characterized by more bust development than A cup body type of AN body type; the circumference surrounding the bust is long and longitudinal length passing the nipples is long in the front and short in the back, which indicates an element of bent-back body type or different body type with Back Interscye Fold Length more developed than Interscye Fold Front.
Second, patterns Ⅰ,Ⅱ, and Ⅲ from previous studies were made following the design dimensions of A cup body type of AN type and C cup body type of HH type which are standard female body types, a virtual one piece was made and fitted on using virtual fitting system, the fitting condition was observed on CLO 3D into five directions of front, 45-degree side, right side, left side and back, and questionnaire-based fitting test was conducted. As reference pattern, pattern Ⅲ was adopted, which showed above-average fitting and construction line, in general. However, its ease was set with reference to pattern I in order to correct the relatively much ease for jacket type torso prototype pattern.
In case of C cup body type prototype, it included the ease on the bust and that on other parts in design as it was designed based on bust size, and thus was thought to be unsuitable for just bust developed in standard body type, and the first study pattern was made and fitted on by decreasing the ease on the bust and increasing the front extension. As a result, physical fitness value was thought to be improved by correcting the ease, extending only the difference of bust size, and fixing the sizes of other parts, but armhole was required to be corrected because the bust was seen on a certain part with bust development and low-cut armhole, and it seemed that the ease of bust size was a little more set than A cup body type, and the hem line lifted due to insufficient front extension was required to be corrected, as well. Corrections included the increase of bust dart to B/20-0.8cm and the extension of front seam as much as B‘/20-0.8cm-(B/20-1.2) to settle the insufficient side seam. To level off the construction line of waist circumference line, the waist side line lifted to 0.5cm and the waste line of dart were connected diagonally, the dart line of pattern was expressed in a straight line for pattern use, and considering that diverse availability could be secured by correction for bending based on design whenever designing application pattern, final tight-fitting shape one piece prototype pattern was designed by leaving it at that.
Third, to verify tight-fitting shape one piece prototype design pattern, it was virtually fitted onto both the CLO 3D avatar and the actual 3D human body. The virtual fitting onto the CLO 3D slim tall avatar revealed that it was not fitted well on the waist because of different length but was fitted well on other parts except influence of height. After virtual fitting onto the actual 3D human body, construction line, ease and fit were proper but it was fitted worse than standard human body owing to asymmetric nature and posture factor of the human body, however, it was thought to be caused by characteristics of the human body, and thus it was deemed available as tight-fitting shape ready-made clothes for C cup body type and A cup body type.
In this study, tight-fitting shape one piece prototype pattern was designed for women wearing a C cup. This pattern involves a limitation that it may not be compared with actual fitting due to fitting test through virtual fitting instead of actual fitting, and therefore, further studies are required to be made for developing a grading rule in order to see fit even in a tall avatar that is generally used in virtual fitting.
