This study starts with a large framework for studying the background and characteristics of each period of how the United States immigration policies have changed historically. First of all, it examines various theoretical backgrounds of immigration and tries to understand its historical significance. It compares the theoretical background with the theory of assimilation, multiculturalism and examines the political theories of immigration. It focused on anti-immigration policy of Trump administration, which is the biggest issue to clarify the attitude to the changes in direction of immigration policies.
The United States organized by immigrants, has been continuously repeated accepting or controlling policies of immigration depending on their political or economic demands. Immigration has always been an issue in the United States presidential elections. To understand American society, it is necessary to study the history of the United States immigration policy.
President Obama's administration, the first of colored president in the United States, symbolized the ‘new change', was launched with the support of Americans as well as people all over the world. How did the result of the ‘new change' appear after 7 years? Trump, considered a populist, became the 45th president of the United States. The unpredictable rise of Trump was attributed to several factors that are inherent in American society.
This study focused on the significance of the Trump administration and the specifics of the anti-immigration policy of the Trump administration, which is one of the most controversial of the policy. The first and most controversial executive order is to block the entry of Muslim nationals into the United States. It is said to protect national security in response to terrorism. But it has created a lot of debate about racial and religious discrimination because it shows very active immigration restrictions. Secondly, Trump administration announced that it would abolish the DACA(Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) for the deferment of illegal immigrants. The lawsuit is underway, so this looks at the process of DACA and its progress in detail. And this study looks over what important implications it has on the United States immigration policy through a comparison with the George Bush administration and the Obama administration's immigration policy.
Korea has now entered a multicultural society. This study gives some implications to Korean society such as Jeju refugee problem, domestic foreign workers, increase of international marriage rate and so on.
President Trump's new policy on immigration has a variety of policy issues to be considered. It is necessary to improve related systems of multiculturalism in order to prevent the confusion of social integration such as consciousness of discrimination and antipathy for existing immigrants. Korean Government should be prepared to help immigrants adapt to Korean society.
