This study aims to improve the work performance of office workers who sit for a long time by applying universal design centered on slipper design.
In this study, we investigate the design of preferred slippers and the effect of slippers on work ability for office workers who work wearing slippers for more than 6 hours a day. The age group of the survey respondents was the most in their 30s. Unlike slippers worn in everyday life, functional factors such as cushions and acupressure were most preferred and considered features when purchasing office slippers. The slippers mostly worn in the office were priced between 10,000 won and 30,000 won, and the same price range was preferred for office slippers that are likely to be purchased in the future.
Regarding a survey using a 5-point scale, where a higher score indicates greater satisfaction, the question of whether wearing office slippers helps improve work efficiency compares to wearing regular shoes and whether wearing office slippers increases satisfaction with the work environment received the most responses at 4 points. In addition, for the question of whether wearing office slippers has a positive impact on foot health while working, the highest score of 5 points was selected by the majority of respondents.
Based on the literature review and survey results, we proposed a slipper design with universal design for office workers. Universal design refers to a product design that anyone can easily use. The slipper design proposed through this study is designed to widen the toes to make it easier for all office workers to wear, prevent socks from getting wet in humid places such as the bathroom, or be more formal. In addition, considering the important factors in the survey, the price range of slippers desired, and the difference in salary according to title and occupation, we proposed an insole-replaceable slipper design that can satisfy everyone to wear comfortably. With this design, you can replace the introduction function and color according to the price range.
The proposed universal design office slippers in this study are expected to provide a comfortable working environment and greatly improve work efficiency for those who work in the office for a long time. We recommend actively utilizing the slipper applies with universal design as a way to guarantee the health of office workers while improving work efficiency.
