The purpose of this study is to empirically identify the factors influencing the acceptance of smart safety technologies among construction site managers, who play a central role in determining and implementing the adoption of such technologies in practice. The study examines how technological factors—comprising relative advantage, complexity, and reliability—and support environment factors—consisting of education and training support, managerial support, and government support—affect managers’ intentions to adopt smart safety technologies. In addition, the study investigates the moderating role of personal innovativeness in these relationships.
To achieve this purpose, an online survey was conducted with construction site managers from August 19 to August 26, 2025, yielding a total of 350 valid responses. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and AMOS 23.0. Path analysis was employed to estimate the structural relationships proposed in the research model, and multi-group analysis was conducted to examine the moderating effects of personal innovativeness.
The main findings of this study are as follows.
First, relative advantage and reliability had significant positive effects on the intention to adopt smart safety technologies, whereas complexity did not show a significant effect. This indicates that managers’ willingness to adopt increases when a technology is perceived as efficient and reliable, while the level of complexity does not substantially deter technology acceptance.
Second, among the support environment factors, government support had a significant positive effect on adoption intention, whereas education and training support and managerial support were not significant. These results suggest that institutional and policy-level support plays a pivotal role in facilitating technology adoption, while internal organizational support alone does not strengthen adoption intention.
Third, personal innovativeness significantly moderated the relationship between reliability and adoption intention, but no moderating effect was found in the relationships involving relative advantage or complexity. This implies that highly innovative managers are more inclined to evaluate technological reliability favorably and actively adopt new technologies, whereas their perceptions of usefulness and complexity do not differ substantially according to innovation level.
Fourth, personal innovativeness significantly moderated the effects of education and training support and managerial support on adoption intention, but no moderating effect was observed in the relationship involving government support. This indicates that highly innovative managers are more likely to leverage internal organizational support when adopting new technologies, while government support functions consistently regardless of individual innovation levels.
