On the basis of the Second All-out National Land Development Plan, Naju, as a small life area within its large life area, has continued growing with a character of satellite city to Kwangju, the first rate growth centered cithy in Honam area. Besides, the development policy for Naju which is oriented toward two thousands is expected to play an important role in the development of the southeastern area.
In order to settle urban problems along with various complex institutions in a limited land, we must have many large green belt to which people can gain an easy access and which can be open to everybody. And these green belts should be composed of such parks. green streets, and small dotted green belts as will provide residential district with a living, pleasant environment.
Efforts have been made to develop Naju city as a garden city according to the land utilization plan. Accordingly, Naju is expected to assume a pattern of central urban district, whose commercial zone is to be environed by residential zone, residential zone by parks and green zones. By way of Development Plan mentioned above, Naju will become an ideal city surrouned by the spontaneously formed rural area, which should be developed as the one in harmony with the urban area.
Compared with 55.7% of green belt of Banwol, and 46.8% of that of Yochon, Naju has 83.3% of green belt, and it is characterized by rather having agricultural village than being an urban area alone. Therefore, it has to be developed and maintained as a garden city that holds more than 60%, at least, of green zone of the city.
