백문이 불여일체(百聞而不如一體) = 대학생의 노인생애체험학습을 통한 노인과 노화의 이해 및 연령차별주의에 대한 자기반성에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 대학생의 노인과 노화에 대한 이해를 높이고, 연령차별주의에 대한 자기반성을 도우며, 노인을 옹호하는 방법을 생각하게 도와주는 체험학습에 관한 것이다. 118명의 대학생이 노인생애체험을 하였고, 체험학습의 연장선으로서 일곱 가지 구조적 질문에 대해 보고서를 작성하였다. 질적내용분석과 개방형 코딩 방법을 통해 분석한 결과, 참여 학생들이 노인생애체험을 통해 깨달은 것은 다음과 같이 여섯 가지 주제로 도출되었다: ① 노인에 대한 공감적 이해, ② 반성과 새로운 다짐, ③ ‘늙는다’는 사실에 대한 새로운 발견, ④ 노화는 복합적인 과정의 산물, ⑤ 부정적 노화 경험은 사회적 책임, ⑥ 노인복지의 필요성. 연구결과를 바탕으로 노인생애체험의 효과를 높이기 위한 방안 및 연령차별주의 극복을 위한 사회복지 교육과 실천 내용에 대해 논의한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to address an experiential learning experience which intends to enhance college students’ understanding of older adults and the aging process, to promote self-examination on ageism, and to inspire them to consider how to advocate the elderly.118 students participated in the experimental learning experience called ‘Aging simulation’, and they filled out the questionnaire with seven structured questions to answer the effect of the simulation experience. This data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis and open-coding, and produced six main themes: ① increased empathy toward senior adults, ② reflection on one’s ageist attitude and pledge of respect for the elderly, ③ uncovered truth of one’s aging, ④ understanding aging as a complicated precess, ⑤ awareness of social responsibility for negative aging experience, ⑥ appreciation of increased welfare state for older adults. Based on results, implications for social work education and practice that overcome ageism as well as foster the effects of the aging simulation are discussed.
