몸/몸의 실제를 중심으로 분석한 한국 유치원 여자 유아들의 “여자아이다운” 젠더구성에 관한 사례연구 = A Cast Study of Korean Girls' Construction of Girlish Girlhood through Body/Bodily Practice in a Kindergarten Class

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 여자유아들의 몸/몸의 실제를 중심으로 이들이 유치원에서 구성하는 젠더를 살펴보는 사례연구이다. 연구 참여자는 서울에 소재하고 있는 사립유치원의 만 5세 학급의 31명 (남아 16명 여아 15명)이다. 자료는 참여관찰을 통한 현장기록지, 면담, 그리고 연구자 저널을 통해 수집되었다. 여자유아들의 몸/몸의 실제를 분석한 결과 이들이 “여자아이다운” 젠더를 구성하는 것이 관찰되었다. 바다반 여자유아들은 젠더화된 색상, 여성스러운 장식들, 그리고 장신구를 통해 논란의 여지가 없는 “여자아이다운” 젠더를 구성하였다. 또한 여자유아들은 “예쁜, 단정한 그리고 적절하게 가려진”모습을 유지하기 위해 많은 노력을 하였다. 비록 바다반 여자유아들이 이 세 가지 모습이 여자유아들의 몸/몸의 실제를 통제하지만, 이들은 상황에 따라 새롭게 정의되고 협의되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This is a case study to explore Korean's girls constructions of gender in a kindergarten class, mainly focusing on girls' bodies and bodily practices. I completed data collection in one Korean kindergarten class of 5-year-olds, located in Seoul, Korea. I gathered data from three different sources: 1) fieldnotes from participant observation, 2) interviews with participants, and 3) my research journal. By analyzing girls' bodies and bodily practices, I have uncovered appearance-based girlish gender construction. The girls in this study successfully performed their unequivocal girlishness relying on gendered colors, feminizing details, and accessories. The girls invested themselves in maintaining three appearances--a pretty appearance, a well-groomed appearance, and a properly covered appearance. Although these appearances regulated and normalized girls' bodies and bodily practices, they were interrupted, interfered and renegotiated context by context.
