매체 인터뷰의 담화 전략 연구 : 라디오의 시사 인터뷰를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인터뷰는 본래 질문을 통해 무언가를 얻거나 해결하는, 사람과 사람 사이의 공적인 의사소통 행위이다. 또한 이와 같은 행위를 통해 정보를 얻거나 전달하는 기능을, ‘매체를 통해서’ 하게 되는 매체 담화이기도 하다. 그러나 현재 한국의 라디오 시사 프로그램 인터뷰를 이해하기 위해서는 다음과 같은 두 가지 사실을 더 염두에 두어야 한다. 첫 번째는 이 인터뷰가 취재 수단에서 진화한 ‘방송 담화’의 일종이라는 점이고, 두 번째는 상당히 논쟁적이고, 정치적인 인터뷰라는 점이다. 이 사실들은 언론학적 관점에서의 절차나 관행에 대한 연구를 넘어 본격적으로 이에 대한 담화적 분석, 그리고 대화 전략 혹은 담화 전략적 연구가 필요함을 시사한다. 그리하여 본 논문에서는 방송 담화로서의 매체 인터뷰에 대한 담화 분석을 시도하게 되었으며 대화 분석적 접근에 의해 담화 전략을 연구하게 되었다.이 글에서 특히 인터뷰어의 담화 전략에 주목한 이유는 첫 번째로, 인터뷰라는 제도화된 임무 수행을 목적으로 하고, 시간과 형식에 제약을 받는 매체 담화에서는 담화를 운영하는 전략이 담화의 구조뿐 아니라 내용까지 지배하는 결정적 요소일 수 있고, 두 번째로는 방송 담화로서의 인터뷰 장르가 오늘날처럼 사회적으로 영향력을 발휘하게 된 데 인터뷰어의 역할이나 힘이 크게 작용했다고도 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 이런 사실은 인터뷰가 단순히 사실이나 뉴스를 보도하는 데 그치지 않고, 보다 깊이 있게 의견을 말하고 형성하는 언론으로 자리 잡게 된 것과도 무관하지 않다.그런 점에서 인터뷰어의 담화 전략은 한낱 개인의 능력이나 스타일 차원이 아니라 인터뷰 담화의 목적을 달성하기 위해 의도하는 담화의 계획이자 적절한 방식으로 사회적 요구를 실현시키는 과정으로 이해되어야 한다. 그리고 인터뷰 담화 역시 단지 인터뷰이가 알리려고 하는 정보를 담는 데 그치지 않고, 그와의 협상을 통해 드러내는 의미, 청취자에게 전달하고자 하는 담화의 메시지를 형성하는 대화 텍스트로 이해되어야 한다. 3장의 담화 지배 전략은 그런 의도에 따라 텍스트를 만들고 장악하는 절차, 4장의 상호행위 전략은 발화의 매순간 의미를 다투고 생산하며 담화의 구체적 양상을 구축하게 되는 전략이다. 이와 같이 담화를 지배하거나 상대와 협상하는 행위는 매체 담화에 대한 중립성 요구와 상충하게 되므로 5장의 중립성 전략은 이 문제를 해결하는 전략이다. 의견을 말하고 논쟁을 수행하면서도 이를 중립적 방식으로 풀어나가야 하는 상황은 중립성 전략을 정교하고 중층적인 방식으로 작동시켜 개별 담화 사례마다 중립성에 관한 성취와 체감의 정도를 달라지게 하였다.이상의 논의를 통해 이 글에서는 매체 인터뷰가 인터뷰어의 전략에 기반하여 의견을 전달하고 형성하는 방송 담화의 한 영역이자 논쟁적이고 정치적인, 그러나 나름의 중립성을 지향하는 담화임을 말하고자 하였다. 또한 담화 전략의 차원에서 인터뷰 담화를 분석함으로써 이 담화가 눈앞에 보이는 상호행위만으로 이루어지는 대화가 아니라 보이지 않는 여러 층위에서, 각기 다른 과제를 수행하는 담화 전략이 작용하는 중층적 구조이며 그것이 담화에 대해 사회적으로 상충하는 요구를 실현하기 위한 것임을 보이고자 하였다. 이와 같은 분석의 과정 및 결과가 매체 담화를 접하는 많은 이들에게 그 속에 숨은 중층적 의미와 의도를 해독하고, 매체 담화의 의의와 한계를 인식할 수 있는 틀을 제공하게 되기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

A media interview on current affairs is a kind of institutional talk which has constraints on interviewer's act and the formal structure of the discourse. However there are still more facts we need to find out to understand the nature of the interview on current affairs.First, this interview is a broadcast talk as discourse evolved from a method used for the news coverage. Second, this interview is rather controversial and political talk comparing to other types of discourse. These are the reasons why we need to study the media interview from the discourse analysis perspective.This study is to analyze the discourse strategies of the interviewers from the conversational analysis perspective, as it is the discourse strategies that decide the structure or the contents of discourse in controversial and political talk, and the interviewers have made great contribution for the broadcast interview to become influential socially today. Therefore we could say that the media interview is not only journalism simply telling the news of today but also journalism reflecting the public opinion of the people and making social issues out of it.The interviewer's discourse strategies are needed to be understood as a plan and a process of discourse to fulfill the needs of society on media interview in proper ways. Considering all that, the interview discourse could be considered as a designed text where the interviewer interacts with the interviewee negotiating meanings and creating the messages for the audiences. In chapter 3, 'the discourse dominating strategies' is discussed as a procedure structuring such textual meanings. In chapter 4, 'the interacting strategies' is analyzed to see how the interviewer interacts with the interviewee strategically, and establishes the concrete aspects of discourse as a result of the interaction. In chapter 5, 'the neutrality maintaining strategies' is discussed as a way of solving problems occurring while dominating structures and negotiating meanings conflict with social demands of the neutrality about discourse. These conflicting circumstances need even more elaborated and complicated strategies for the interviewer to maintain the neutrality. Therefore the degree of the neutrality achieved ought to vary delicately according to each case, but it is still very important as the neutrality maintaining strategies function to secure the credibility or the authority of the media interview.In this study, it is shown that the media interview has become a journalism genre that the interviewer presents one's opinion based on one's power and strategies with the aim of maintaining its neutrality. In this point of view, it can be said that the media interview on current affairs is clearly distinguished from the political talk show from abroad or the quasi-conversational personality talk show.By analyzing the discourse strategies used in the media interview, we could understand that this type of discourse is not just a conversation between the interviewer and the interviewee but a discourse which has multi-layered structure influenced by different strategies at each level, and that all the strategies used are to meet the conflicting needs of society about the media interview. Understanding the multi-layered structure of media interview on current affairs, it is hoped that this analysis will provide us with a template for decoding the hidden meanings in the multi-layered discourse realities.
