나딩스 행복론의 교육적 함의 = Educational Implications of Nel Noddings’ happiness theory

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 넬 나딩스 행복론을 탐색하고 한국교육에 주는 함의를 밝히는
데에 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 나딩스의 전반적인 사상을 살펴봄으로써 행복론이 등장한
배경을 밝힌다. 나딩스는 배려 윤리를 통해 배려하는 관계의 중요성을 주장했다. 배려
교육론은 배려를 교육에서도 적용하자는 내용이다. 행복론은 배려교육론을 실천한 결
과로서 교육의 최종 목적이 행복이라는 맥락에서 등장했다.
둘째, 나딩스의 행복론을 분석한다. 나딩스의 행복론을 크게 개인적 차원과 사회적
차원으로 살펴본다. 개인적 차원의 행복은 소극적 의미로서 고통의 최소화와 적극적
의미로서 필요와 원함의 충족을 포함한다. 사회적 차원의 행복은 배려하는 관계, 민주
주의 등과 연결된다. 나딩스의 행복론은 개인적, 사회적 두 가지 차원을 포괄하는 입
장이다. 특히 여러 입장을 제시하되 한 쪽에 치우치지 않았다는 점에서 균형잡힌 의
미가 있다.
셋째, 나딩스 행복론을 이론적으로 탐색하여 한국교육에 적용할 수 있는 교육체계
와 이를 바탕으로 함의를 모색한다. 개인적, 사회적 차원의 교육내용은 현재 교육과정
에 새로운 시각을 제공한다.
본 연구는 나딩스 행복론을 바탕으로 한국교육에 함의를 다음과 같이 던질 수 있
다. 첫째, 교육의 목적이 행복이라는 인식을 정립할 수 있다. 둘째, 교육의 내용, 과정
에서 부정적인 내용이 없어진 교육을 통해 행복한 교육이 가능하다. 셋째, 필요와 원
함을 충족시키는 교육이 가능하다. 넷째, 배려하는 관계를 바탕으로 한 공동체적 접근
을 통해 행복한 교육이 가능하다. 다섯째, 다양성을 인정하는 교육을 통해 창의성과
다원주의 등을 꽃피우며 모두가 행복해질 것이다. 나딩스의 행복론은 구체적이고 실
현가능한 사회적 의미를 갖고 있어 우리 한국 교육에 큰 울림을 주고 있다. 나딩스의
행복론이 교육현장에서 적용될 때 그 어느 교육 사상가들의 행복론보다 교육적 함의
가 실천 가능할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to explore the Nel Noddings’ happiness theory
and its implications for Korean education. First, I clarify the background of the
emergence of happiness theory by examining the overall ideas of Noddings.
Noddings insisted on the importance of the relationship that cares through care
-ethics. Care education is the application of cares to education. Happiness theory
was the result of practice of the care education, and the ultimate purpose of
education emerged in the context of happiness.
Second, I analyze Noddings' happiness theory. Noddings' happiness theory is
largely examined in terms of individual dimension and social dimension. Happiness
on a personal level includes passive meaning as minimization of pain and
fulfillment of needs and wants as positive meaning. Happiness on the social level
is connected with caring relationship, democracy, and so on. Noddings' happiness
theory is a position that encompasses two dimensions, personal and social.
Especially there is a balanced sense in that it presents a number of positions but
is not biased towards one side.
Third, we explore the educational system and Educational Implications that can
be applied to Korean education by theoretically exploring Noddings' happiness
theory. Especially the contents of education at the personal and social level
provide a new perspective to the current curriculum.
Theory of Nardins happiness is explored theoretically, and the education system
which can apply to Korean education and the implication based on it are sought.
Based on the Noddings' happiness theory, this study give implications for
Korean education as follows. First, we can establish the perception that the
purpose of education is happiness. Second, happy education can be achieved
through education that has negative side in the content and process of education.
Third, education that meets needs and wants is possible. Fourth, happy education
is possible through a community approach based on careful relationships. Finally,
education that acknowledges diversity will bloom creativity and pluralism and
everyone will be happy. Noddings' happiness theory has a concrete and feasible
social meaning and gives a big resonance to our Korean education. When
Noddings' happiness theory is applied in the field of education, educational
implications can be practiced rather than the happiness of any educational thinker.
