- The purpose of this thesis is to bring Content-Based Instruction (CBI) in Korean secondary school setting. Toward this end, rationale for CBI is reviewed by exploring definition, supports from various aspects and types of CBI. With this theoretical background, it is necessary to figure out Korean education system to create CBI curriculum in Korean secondary school setting. To understand Korean secondary school setting, the 7th national curriculum and independent activity and government After-school program policy are reviewed. The connection between CBI and Korean Education system can be found in the aspects of learner-centered idea, intrinsic motivation and Constructivism. The meeting of theory and system realize in the practice, actual implementation. Before suggesting actual implementation, checklist for program design and case study of level-differentiated curriculum at Younglim Middle School, Seoul is reviewed to figure out feasibility of CBI in Korean setting. Finally, this thesis suggests the CBI program development. Level-differentiated classroom is embodied by two ways; one is diversifying tactics within a theme unit and the other is modifying existing textbook. For independent activity, Korean English Teachers group have made sample lesson plan using Theme-based instruction. CBI in after-school program is represented by creating a theme-based program which uses the movie ‘Bend It like Beckham’ as a source of themes.
