This study aims to examine the direct impact of achievement goal orientation on career preparation behavior among Chinese E-sports students and further investigates the mediating effects of learning motivation and learning flow in the relationship between achievement goal orientation and career preparation behavior. This research not only designs a model grounded in educational theory but also provides a psychological perspective on improving achievement goal orientation’s influence on career preparation behavior. But also offers support for students in the E-sports field to develop clearer career planning and job preparation behaviors throughout their academic journey. To achieve the above research objectives, this study aims to enhance the career preparation behavior of E-sports university students. The research sampled students from two vocational universities in Shanghai, China, collecting a total of 383 valid responses. Descriptive statistics, reliability and validity analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and structural equation modeling were employed to test the research hypotheses based on the collected data. The research results indicate that, firstly, students' achievement goal orientation has a significant impact on their Learning Motivation, learning flow, and career preparation behavior. Secondly, both learning motivation and learning flow have a notable effect on students' career preparation behavior. Thirdly,learning motivation and learning flow play a significant mediating role in the relationship between achievement goal orientation and career preparation behavior. Based on these findings, the study offers recommendations and insights for students' career goals and E-sports program development. Firstly, by examining students' learning motivation and learning flow, it reveals not only the degree of engagement in classroom learning but also in independent learning after class. This highlights areas where instructors can improve classroom teaching and teaching support from universities. From the perspective of career preparation behavior, universities should focus on cultivating students' achievement goal orientation, enhancing their motivation for career preparation behavior, paying attention to learning flow, and encouraging active participation in learning. This approach can help improve students' career preparation behavior, laying a solid foundation for their career planning. Additionally, understanding students' psychological states in the professional learning process allows instructors to better serve their needs and refine aspects of the E-sports program, enhancing its relevance and effectiveness.
