    The concerns about the productivity and competitive power of banking industry has been growing in accordance with the recession of domestic activities and the deficit of the balance of international payment.
    In a near future, the financial industry not only will be faced with the opportunity to increase its competitive power but also will be faced with the threat to workout simultaneously.
    This thesis research used DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) which is different from the Ratio-analysis, to measure the efficiency of individual banking branches.
    In financial institute, the definition of the relationships between inputs and outputs is ambiguous. Therefore the utility of DEA can be found in the point that it can measure the efficiency without specific function such as cost function. DEA find the most efficient DMU(Dicision Making Units) through the simple model, and measure the other DMU's inefficiency based on the most efficient DMU. And DEA also can provide several informations about over-inputs and under-outputs.
    In this thesis research, one sample commercial bank was selected and 35 branches were included to measure the operation efficiency. The operation efficiency of branches was measure by three method : Ratio-analysis, Regression analysis and DEA. In research result the comparision of method is also resented.
    The results are below :
    1. DEA method was used to measure the operation efficiency of branches.
    2. Ratio-analysis and Regression analysis, used frequently in field, were used to measure the operation efficiency of branches.
    3. The results of measurements were compared. In the result comparison, DEA and Regression analysis are significantly correlated. Therefore objective measurement of operation efficient can be obtained by DEA.
    4. The results presented the optimal production point of inefficient branches.
    5. DEA present more objective measurement than other methods and has the possibility of applying in field.
    6. According to the results, operation profit, space cost, operation cost and labor cost influence the efficiency score. Specifically operation profit is significantly correlated with efficient score and has the considerable influence, and other inputs variables are negatively correlated with efficiency score.
    7. The operation efficiency analysis of banking branches can assist Ratio-analysis. When properly cordinated, DEA and Regression analysis can provide clear information to dicision makers. This thesis research present the probability to provide the better information.
    Based on above research results, one can measure the comprehensive, objective operation efficiency with DEA method which is cordinated with other traditional methods. And one can find the source of inefficiency more easily and also find the improvement directions.
