This study aimed to understand how social face sensitivity, which affects consumption behaviors in the Korean society, mediates conspicuous consumption tendency of South Koreans with strong authoritarian tendencies, and suggest the need to recognize the leisure sports culture that is recently appearing in the Korean society
In order to conduct the study, golf driving ranges located in Seoul and Gyeonggi regions were visited for approximately sixty days from June 1st to July 31st of 2018, and those who are continuously participating in golf related activities with experiences of purchasing golf equipments during the past year were chosen as the questionnaire survey target. Among non-probability samplings, convenience sampling method was utilized to conduct the survey. Four hundred copies of survey were distributed to four golf driving ranges(100 copies per range), and excluding 29 non-response and undependable surveys, a total of 371 copies were collected and analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 Version statistics program.
Depending on the purpose of analysis, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to deduct the following conclusions.
First, it was shown that there are significant differences in social face sensitivity, conspicuous consumption tendency and behaviors depending on golf equipment consumers' demographic characteristics. Second, social face sensitivity of golf equipment consumers was shown to have significant effect on conspicuous consumption tendency. Third, social face sensitivity of golf equipment consumers was shown to have significant effect on consumption behaviors. Fourth, conspicuous consumption tendency of golf equipment consumers was shown to have significant effect on consumption behaviors.
