    Abstract
    Since the concept of lifelong education was put forward, more and more studies have combined family education, school education and social education through personal learning process, and the educational space with the theme of human life and cultural elements has become an important arena for out of school education. As a supplementary measure of closed education in schools, exhibition hall education provides an informal learning environment that is more intuitive and open. In terms of exhibition-based education, foreign scholars represented by John Falk have gradually formed a theoretical system of museum learning including museum science learning, which has been repeatedly verified in America and even western cultures. In China, the research of exhibition-based education is still at a preliminary stage, and the quantity and depth of research are seriously insufficient. Therefore, in order to supplement the academic materials of China’s exhibition hall education, this paper takes the exhibition hall of Chinese traditional wedding customs and culture as the research object, and discusses the influence of college students’ learning motivation and prior knowledge on learning effects through the mediating effect of display design.
    This study explores the following issues: First, can experiential learning in exhibition halls improve the knowledge of visiting college students on specific topics? Second, in the educational space of the exhibition hall, does the learning motivation of college students affect the learning effects? Third, after making a comparison of the experimental group and the control group, can it be found that the prior knowledge plays a role in the learning effects? Fourth, does display design affect the learning effects of visitors? Fifth, does the design of exhibition halls as the educational space play a mediating role between college students’ learning motivation, prior knowledge and learning effects?
    In order to find the answers to those questions, this research first designs an exhibition hall with the theme of Chinese traditional wedding customs (marriage customs) and culture, and then 511students who aren’t majors of design are divided into an experimental group and a control group for an education experiment in the exhibition space. SPSS 24.0 software was used for data analysis to test the proposed assumptions and models. The applied statistical methods include descriptive statistical analysis, reliability and validity analysis, exploratory factor analysis, difference analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
    The results of this study are as follows:
    First, experiential learning in the exhibition hall can improve the knowledge of visiting college students on specific topics;
    Second, in the educational space of the exhibition hall, the learning motivation of college students has a positive impact on the learning effects;
    Third, after making a comparison of the experimental group and the control group, it has been found that the prior knowledge has a positive impact on the learning effects;
    Fourth, display design has a positive impact on the learning effects of visitors;
    Fifth, the design of exhibition halls as the educational space plays a mediating role between college students’ learning motivation, prior knowledge and learning effects.
    Based on the research results, we suggest: First, add the learning effects of visitors to the design and evaluation criteria of the value and function of the exhibition hall. Second, in order to improve the learning effects of visitors, such measures as providing learning sheets, shall be taken to enhance visitors’ visiting objectives and increase their prior knowledge. Third, in the study of off campus contextual education and museum learning, more attention should be paid to the influence of space environment, especially display design.

    Since the concept of lifelong education was put forward, more and more studies have combined family education, school education and social education through personal learning process, and the educational space with the theme of human life and cultural elements has become an important arena for out of school education.
