디지털 활자의 시대흐름별 글꼴의 변화 연구 : 손멋글꼴을 중심으로 = Research for digital script font's chronological change

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is on digital Script fonts. From the earlier digital stage to present, there have been wide changes of Hangeul Script fonts whose environments would be discussed.
In the earlier period of digital type period, we had only few fonts, but now numerous fonts were created in a short period of time.
In particular, Script fonts among others were created rapidly according to trends. Thus, it clearly demonstrates characteristics of font environment itself by periods.
As such, while a great deal of increase on the diversity of Script fonts in terms of quantity and quality, studies on this area is scarce. Thus, the researcher thought it to be necessary to figure out the trend of such fonts. This study deals with trends and change of Script fonts after sorting out its history.

Chapter 1 dealt with background and previous studies and defined methodology and terminology.
Chapter 2 figured out the trend of handwriting before dealing with Script fonts by pre-industrial period, pre-digital period and post-digital period.
In chapter 3, the history of digital Script fonts were examined in 4 periods: Initial stage, font diversification and expansion period, market diversified period and 2nd expansion period. Before an actual analysis of Script fonts, the overall trend was figured out by pointing out events that were closely related to the Korean fonts in terms of digital technology, culture, font market and users.
Chapter 4 examined the reasons of changes of digital Script fonts by periods which were examined in chapter 3 in terms of digital technology development in Korea, change of social significance value, new market formation, operation of experiences and characteristics of media.
And, the actual change of fonts was examined by five classification criteria including the comparison of fonts based on original handwriting drawing, whether or not succeeding authentic handwriting, representation of texture, representation of power of a brush stroke and decorative elements in order to find causes of actual change of trends.
Finally, the recent font culture was examined including expansion of concept of handwriting due to the appearance of Script fonts, closeness between fonts and image, appearance of users with professional knowledge and unification of font environment.
Chapter 5 is the conclusion of study in which the merits of the study were introduced and the future trend of Script font was estimated.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 디지털 손멋글꼴에 대한 연구이다. 디지털 시대로 접어들고부터 현재까지 한글 손멋글꼴의 변화와 그 당시 전후의 주변 환경에 대한 내용을 담고 있다. 우리나라는 디지털 활자 시대 초기에는 몇 가지 글꼴밖에 갖고 있지 않았으나, 이후 지금에 이르기까지, 길지 않은 시간동안에 무수히 많은 글꼴들이 만들어졌다. 특히 이들 글꼴 중에서도 손멋글꼴은 유행에 따라 발빠르게 만들어졌으며, 그렇기 때문에 그 자체로 시대별 글자환경의 특징을 무엇보다 잘 간직하고 있다.
이렇듯 지금 손멋글꼴은 그 다양함의 정도로 보나 양적으로 보나 처음과는 비할 바 없이 팽창하였으나, 아직 많이 연구되지 않은 부분이기도 하다. 연구자는 이들을 정리하고 흐름을 파악할 필요가 있다고 판단하였고, 이 논문을 통해 손멋글꼴의 역사를 정리하여 지금까지의 흐름과 변화 과정을 살펴보았다.

1장에서는 연구의 배경과 선행연구, 연구방법등을 정의하고 용어를 정리하였다.
2장에서는 디지털 손멋글꼴을 다루기에 앞서 우리나라 손글씨의 흐름을 각각 기계화 이전 시대, 디지털 이전 시대, 디지털 이후 시대로 나누어 파악하였다.
3장에서는 우리나라 디지털 손멋글꼴의 역사를 크게 네 개의 시기인 초기, 글꼴 다양화 및 팽창기, 시장 다변화 시기, 2차 팽창기로 세분하여 살펴보았다. 손멋글꼴을 실제로 분석하기에 앞서 지금까지 있었던 한글 글꼴과 밀접한 당시의 사건들을 집어내 디지털 기술 발달과 문화, 글자시장 및 사용자 등의 측면에서 짚어보면서, 전반적인 흐름을 정리하였다.
4장에서 연구자는 앞서 3장에서 살펴본 디지털 손멋글꼴이 시대별로 변화를 겪게 된 이유를 우리나라의 디지털 기술 발달, 사회적 중요 가치의 변화, 새로운 시장의 형성, 경험의 작용, 매체의 특성으로 보았다.

그리고 실제로 글꼴이 어떻게 변화하였는지를 손글씨 원도를 바탕으로 한 글꼴의 비교, 정통 손글씨를 계승했는지 여부, 질감의 재현, 필력의 재현, 장식 요소 등 손멋글꼴 비교에 적절한 분류 기준 다섯가지를 통해 살펴보고, 변화 원인을 따져보았다.
마지막으로 손멋글꼴로 인해 뒤이어 나타난 변화를 손글씨의 개념 확대, 글꼴과 이미지의 밀착현상, 전문가적 지식을 가진 사용자 등장, 글꼴 환경의 통일화로 나누어 최근의 글꼴 문화를 살펴보았다.
5장은 맺음글로, 이 연구를 마무리하며 주장점을 정리하고 앞으로의 손멋글꼴 흐름을 예측하였다.
