Ceramic membrane that is stable for high temperature, high pressure and chemicals is studying because of increasing needs for filter system in severe condition. Sol-gel methods offer many advantages over conventional slip-casting, including the ability to produce ceramic membranes. They are purer, more homogeneous, more reactive and contain a wider variety of compositions. In this study, we produced ormosil sol of TEOS-AlNPDMS-PEG system by sol-gel process. Ormosil sols are prepared under different concentration of inorganic component and various conditions of adding polymer. The properties of as-prepared ormosil sol such as, viscosity, gelation time are characterized. Also, the ceramic membrane was prepared by dip-coating with synthetic sol and its micro-structure was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The permeability and rejection efficiency of membrane for oilwater emulsion were evaluated as cross-flow apparatus. Viscosity of sol was increased with increasing the solid concentration of TEOS-AlNPDMS system but gelation time was decreased. The secondary particle''s size of synthetic TEOS-PEG ormosil sol was controled about 200 ㎚, ormosil sol was prepared with changing PEG molecular weight. It''s viscosity was measured as little change in range of 4.8 to 6.1 but phase separation was quickly progressed by increasing molecular weight of organic component. The membrane coated ormosil sol was easily formed by steric effect of polymer. Also, the coated porous membrane on wet support soaked in solvent was thinly formed without crack by effect decreased in capillary force. The permeability of ormosil sol coated membrane compared with colloidal sol coated that was elevated about 200 ℓm2h at point of five minutes from starting test. Also, the rejection efficiency improved. The ormosil sol coated membranes on wet support soaked in solvent are efficient for the oily waste water treatment. When back washing process periodically conducted, the permeability of coated membranes with various conditions will be increased.
