The author statistically analysed 56 cases of ocular perforation injuries among 1070 patients who were admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology of the Chosun University Hospital, during the period of July 1, 1976-June 30, 1981. And the results from this analysis were as follow.
    1. The incidence of ocular perforation injuries was 5.2 percent of all patients and 30.2 percent of ocular injuries.
    2. The incidence was more common in male (78.6%), and most common in the age group below 10. Relatively higher incidence of ocular perforation injuries was observed in the age group below 10 (26.8%), and the demage was usually more serious.
    3. The incidence of ocular perforation injuries occurred mostly in one eye(94.7%), and more common in the right eye(53.6%) than the left eye(41.1%).
    4. The ocular perforation injuries were most common in the winter (33.9%) especially in December (17.9%). In the school age group the incidence was higher during vacation.
    5. The most common cause of ocular perforation injuries was metal particles or iron wire (28.6%), followed by the injuries from traffic accident(l6.1%), hand(12.5%), and stick(10.7%).
    6. Other ocular manifestation accompanied with the ocular perforation were subconjunctival hemorrhage (46.4%), prolapse of uveal tissue (37.5%), traumatic mydriasis (32%), traumatic hyphema (30.4%), traumatic cataract (23.2%) and vitreous prolapse (16.1%).
    7. The ocular perforation most frequently occurred in cornea (67.9%), followed by corneosclera (21.4%) and sclera(l0.7%).
    8. In most cases, the surgical treatment and the treatment of prevent infection were the most common measure in management the ocular perforation injuries. Surgical interventions included the suture of cornea & sclera with iridedtomy and/or vitrectomy (67.9%) enucleation or evisceration (28.6%) and others.
    9. At the first visit, 85.7 percent of all cases showed the visual acuity below 0.1 and 3.6 percent of them showed the visual acuity over 0.15.
    10. After treatment 35.7 percent of them showed total blindness and 26.8 percent of them showed the visual acuity over 0.15 reflecting poor prognosis However the number of the patients with visual acuity over 0.15 increased from 3.6 percent to 26.8 percent. The prognosis of ocular perforation injuries was generally bad in spite of early treatment.
