This study was carried out 1,421 mid, high school students in Kwang-ju and selected in 3 classes on each grade from 18 July 2000 to 20 July 2000 randomly, to evaluate the factors associated with the symptoms of the disease and using-rate of the health room during the last Quarter by a self-writting question investation. The results are as follows;
1. The use-rate of the health room on objects was 68.4% in mid girl school, 59.0% in mid boy's school, 48.4% in high girl's school and 46.5% in high boy's school. It was higher in high schools than mid schools and on girls than boys.
2. Chief complaints on using the health room was abdominal pain, headache, gastric discomfort, scratching wound, laceration, soreness, measurement of height or weight, dysmenorrhea, dizzness, flu like symptoms, and diarrhea in order, among the 53 items of classification. Gastric problem in girls and traumatic managements in boys were the main complaints.
3. The percent of those who answered the discomfort on visiting the health room was 21.5% and the reasons were absence of health care nurse(9.5%), unfamiliarity(5.8%), and glare or a dreadful look of teacher or friends(3.2%).
4. Factors which had a significant association with utility of health room in mid boy school were discomfort on visiting the health room which is higher than not as 2.32 times, group interested in health is higher than not as 3.00 times, and good friendship is lowerer than bad as 0.46 times(P<0.05).
5. Factors which had a significant association with the use of health room in high girl's school were grade; 2nd grade was higher than freshmen as 2.06 times and 3rd grade higher than freshmen as 5.00 times, health; the unhealthy was higher than the healthy as 2.61 times and discomfort on visiting the health room which is higher than not as 3.321 times(P<0.05).
6. Factors which had a significant association with utility of health room in high boy school were characters; intermediate was higher than introspective as 1.88times and extroversive was higher as 3.01 times, grade; 2nd grade was higher than freshmen as 3.6'7 times and 3rd grade was higher than freshmen as 3.40 times, discomfort on visiting the health room which was higher than not as 1.61 times, group which had a working mother was higher than group which had a non working mother as 1.61 times, group which had a large family was higher than not as 1.84 times, friendship; well friendship was lower than bad as 0.52times and good was lower than bad as 0.51times(P<0.05). But there was no significant association with utility of health room in learning activity, familarity with teacher, interest in health, mental health.
7. Factors which had a significant association with utility of health room in total objects were characters; outer was higher than inner as 1.69 times, grade; 2nd grade was higher than freshmen as 1.47 times and 3rd grade was higher than freshmen as 1.59 times, group which had a working mother was higher than group which had a non working mother as 1.27 times, discomfort on visiting the health room which was higher than not as 2.33 times, well friendship was lower than bad as 0.54times and good was lower than bad as 0.60 times, interest in health; group interested in health is lower than not as 0.58 times(P<0.05). But learning activity and school recognition were not associated with the utility of health room.
Conclusively, I think that teachers and parents who are contact with the students should make early detection of the unrepresented problem with taking care the factors which had a significant association with use of the health room and a health care nurse who is specialized in medicine should be more interested in preventive health education service and preventive service for prevention of disease.
