추상회화에 있어서 자율적 표현성 연구 : 본인 작품 중심으로 = (A) Study on the autonomous expression in abstract painting With the Researcher's Own Works

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 과학 문명의 진보는 예술 행위에 대한 개념의 지속적이고 급격한 면모를 가져왔다. 현대미술은 작품의 유기적(有機的) 실재를 강조하고자 하는 새로운 개념과 합해져 외부 세계의 재현보다는 조형적인 상징을 추구하며, 그 존재의 의미를 정신적이고 감성적인 자율성(自律性)의 강조와 자율성의 존재가치를 확대하는데 두고 있다. 즉 무한한 자유의 세계가 바로 인간 자신의 내면 세계에 존재하는 무한 감정이라는 것을 끌어내고 예술로 승화시키기 위해 노력해 왔다. 현대미술에 있어서 추상회화는 시각적인 대상과 비 시각적인 대상의 진실을 추구하기 위하여 부단히 노력하여 그들의 가치세계를 형성하고 와해시킴을 반복하였다. 또한 감정과 이성 그리고 직관이건 무의식이건 예술의 순수한 원천과 절대성의 언어로서 미술의 근간을 이루고 있다. 추상(抽象, Abstract)이라는 말은 라틴어 abs-trahere에서 유래 된 것으로, 이 말이 갖는 의미는 대상의 전 구성요소 가운데서 어떤 것을 잘라내고 밖으로 끌어내고, 또는 줄이는 것으로 되어 있다. 즉 어떤 대상을 그 전체 상에서 생략하고, 제거하고, 정리하는 것을 추상이라고 하며 이 과정의 작업을 추상한다는 말로 표현하고 있다.
예술에 있어서 인간이 표현하고자 하는 욕구는 인류 역사와 더불어 각기 다른 양상으로 표현 되어왔지만 결국 예술의 표현은 자기감정의 표출이며 내적 충동을 여러 가지 회화적 요소와 결합시키는 것이다.
본 논문은 추상회화의 조형이념의 본질에 접근하려는 일련의 시도에서 도출된 자기 표현의 조형적인 체계와 그 당위성을 모색하는 연구 과정으로, 본 연구자가 질료(質料)에 의한 표현성과 즉물적(卽物的) 표현에 관심을 가지게 된 배경과 다양한 현대미술 속의 한 단면을 통해서 정체성을 규명하고, 자진만의 독자적인 조형언어를 얻고자 하였다. 따라서 본 연구자의 작품 내용과 형식을 분석하고 되돌아봄으로서 보다 독창적인 작업을 전개해나갈 수 있는 예술적 지표를 찾는데 연구 목적이 있다.
본 연구자의 작업에서는 물질과 물질적 중첩에 의해 표면의 투명성과 공간성을 '공존' 이라는 주제를 통해 표현하였고, 재료가 가지는 고유의 물질성을 드러내었으며 색면을 오브제화 하는 과정에서 질료의 자율적 표현에 의한 작업을 추구하였다. 질료가 만들어 네는 유동성은 무의식적 표현을 위한 방법이 되고 있으며, 또 다른 질료의 덧붙여짐은 자동적인 기술을 통한 시간성을 인식하고자 한 것으로 이것은 덧대어지고 붙여지는 관계를 물질간의 구성관계 즉 '공존의 구조'라는 의미로 해석하고자 한 것이다.
시대성(時代性)이나 내적 필연성에 의해서 회화의 표현 항법이 변모되어왔지만, 재료가 가지는 자율적 표현성또한 표현 영역을 확장시키며 그러한 점은 형식이 재료의 변화에 따라서 변할 수 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 표현 양식의 변화와 확장을 위한 질료의 자율적 표현연구는 어떤 양식이나 미학에 구애됨이 없는 다원주의적 경향이 뚜렷한 현대회화에서 작가가 독창적인 작업을 추구하는데 중요한 요소라고 할 수 있다. 앞으로 본 연구자의 작업에서 질료의 다양한 표현 방법과 시도는 그림을 그리는 행위 자체에 중요성을 부여하며 자아를 찾고 실재하는 삶의 공간을 만드는 것이다. 끝으로 본 연구자는 이번 연구과정에서 추상적으로 부유(浮游)하던 개인적 생각을 하나의 개념으로 정리할 수 있었고, 이를 작품 속에서 더욱 심도 있게 접근하는데 커다란 도움을 얻게 되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The scientific advancement in modern civilization brought about the continuous but rapid conceptual change of artistic performances. Combined with a new concept to emphasis organic existence of works, modern arts focus on formative symbol, rather than on reproduction of the external world and regard their reason for being as the emphasis of spiritual and emotional autonomy and the expansion of the value of autonomy. That is, they have tried to extract infinite emotions existing within the inner world from unlimited world of freedom and to sublime them as arts. Abstract painting in modern fine arts pursues the truth of visual objects and non-visual objects with all the best and repeatedly establishes or breaks up the system of values. In addition, they attain the artistic foundation with pure origin and absolute language whether it is emotion or ideal and/or intuition or unconsciousness and whatever. A word, 'Abstract' was originated a Latin, abs-trahere of which meaning is to cut off, extract or reduce a part of the whole. Namely, abstract has a meaning to omit, remove or arrange a part of the whole while they call the processing of the above making an abstract. The desires that human being needs to express in arts have been expressed in various ways but the expression of arts is the presentation of one's own emotion and the combination of immanent impulsion and pictorial factors.
The thesis was intended to study the formative system attributable to a serious of tries approaching the essence of formative concept in abstract painting and to comprehend the grounds, so I was finding out the identity thru the reasonable background that I was interested in the expression by kinds of matters and the materiality and thru a part in various modem arts, and I intended to gain one's own formative language. Accordingly, the purpose of the study is to search the artistic end to facilitate creative works by analyzing and looking back the contents and styles of my works.
The works of the researcher expressed the transparency and spaciousness of the surface piling up objects with the theme of 'coexistence', presented the peculiar materiality and proposed the autonomous expression of materials in the course of processing color-fields as objet. The fluidness by materials becomes a method to express unconsciousness and the addition of another material was intended to recognize the stream of time by way of spontaneous technique, which finally was expected to interpret the relation of the above addition and attachment as constructional correlations of materials, 'the structure of coexistence'.
Although the expressive methods in arts have been changed as time goes by or other necessity has been proposed, it could be ensured that autonomous expression contributed to materials expands expressive fields as well, which would depend on the change of materials. The study on autonomous expression of materials for the purpose of changes and expansion of expressive methods would deserve to be an important factor for a modem artist, who has a trend of strong pluralism distinctively, to complete one's own works regardless of a certain forms or aesthetics. The expressive methods and trials that shall be processed in the researcher's further works were deliberatively to grant the importance to painting activity, itself, to find ego and to call one's own living space in being. Conclusively, during the whole procedures of the study, I could pull my thoughts that were not constructed unproductively as an idea while on the contrary, it was significantly helpful for me to approach the idea logically and deeply.
