    This qualitative study explored aspects of the Book clubs in the seventh-graders`` Korean language arts classes. For this study, the investigator developed curriculum units necessary for implementing the Book clubs and they were applied to seventh-graders`` Korean language arts classes. A Book club is a classroom activity consisting of reading, talking and writing about some interesting parts in the students`` chosen books. First of all, all of the three elements of a Book club were not importantly considered. Instead, only reading was heavily emphasized. Even though teachers tried to guide students to solve their problems from its`` implementation and to provide role models to them, the teachers still inclined to give them very specific answers. Like this, the Book club lessons were controlled by teachers so that students`` participation in the Book clubs were not vivid. This was because teachers viewed reading as a relatively easier subject area to teach and students did not regulate their learning by themselves.
