Artificial intelligence has emerged as a key technology of the 4th industrial revolution, and the government announced the "Artificial Intelligence National Strategy" at a Cabinet meeting in December 2019, with the main contents of fostering artificial intelligence talent, education for public artificial intelligence, and comprehensive use of artificial intelligence. The ability to communicate with AI and use AI will become an essential culture in the future as AI becomes more common throughout human life, and collaboration between humans and AI is becoming a big concern. Innovative changes in the national curriculum, education methods and content are needed as the ability to use AI in the right place as needed and new capabilities to coordinate and cooperate with AI by communicating with AI are needed.
AI literacy includes the ability to understand and utilize the technology of AI, to communicate with society through it, and to think critically. The direction of AI education should be to have AI literacy from the perspective of AI users, not to educate all students who learn as artificial intelligence experts. AI literacy education can be conducted as convergence education with AI in general subjects. In this study, in order to present the direction of general subjects and artificial intelligence convergence education, the 8 period program of 4 theme was developed by converging the contents of the home economics subject, programming of the computer science, and AI. The curriculum convergence artificial intelligence-literacy model was developed to suggest the direction of how to operate when various subjects are fused and taught, and a guidance plan was developed according to the seven-step artificial intelligence-literacy teaching and learning model. The development program was conducted on 103 first-year students of Middle School and the effectiveness was verified through before tests and after test when the program was implemented. After applying the program, there was a significant difference in the response of 11 out of 14 questions, so the positive effectiveness of the program was verified. It can be said that the curriculum convergence artificial intelligence education program can have a positive effect on the value recognition of artificial intelligence, the efficacy of artificial intelligence, and the cultivation of artificial intelligence literacy. This study is meaningful in presenting the direction of subject convergence artificial intelligence education for middle school students. There is still a lack of research on the application of artificial intelligence education programs for middle school students. If you are in charge of AI education only in the in Computer Science subject, you cannot sufficiently be capable the demand for education suitable for the upcoming artificial intelligence age. At the middle school level, cultivation of AI literacy should be the goal of education, not education to train AI developers. To this end, continuous efforts to educate by converging with AI in not only Computer Science but also general subjects are required. This is what this study suggests.
