세계지도 이미지를 이용한 디지로그 아트 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

오늘날 컴퓨터는 다양하고 복잡한 현대사회의 모든 부분에서 없어서는 안 되는 중요한 존재가 되었다. 디자인과 예술분야에서도 기존의 표현 방식을 새롭게 창조하려는 많은 시도가 나타나면서 컴퓨터와 인터넷, 디지털프린팅, 디지털카메라 등의 여러 디지털 기술의 발전에 힘입은 디지로그 아트가 하나의 흐름으로 자리 잡고 있다.
디지로그 아트는 붓, 물감, 오브제 등을 사용하는 기존의 회화 표현방식 대신 컴퓨터, 태블릿, 디지털카메라, 스캐너 등의 도구의 변화를 통해 텍스타일디자인, 그래픽디자인 등의 디지털 아트와 순수 회화적인 아트를 동시에 표현할 수 있다. 연구자는 이러한 작업에서 상업성, 실용성, 예술성의 가치를 높이고자 하였다.
연구 작품의 메인 모티브로 활용한 세계지도 이미지는 지구본과 평면지도 그리고 세계지도 일부분을 차용하였다. 연구자는 지구본 원의 이미지를 소중한 존재로 인식하였으며 인간의 삶이 모나지 않고 원만하고 평범한 모습으로 형상화하여 표출하였다. 평면적인 세계지도 이미지는 지구속의 일상생활에서 희로애락(喜怒哀樂)을 느끼면서 살아가고 있는 우리들을 다시 한 번 되돌아보자는 의미가 있다. 그리고 광활한 우주의 아주 작은 일부분인 지구에 살고 있는 우리 인간을 미미하지만 소중한 존재로 표현 하고자 하였다. 또한 현대사회의 물질만능과 지구의 환경 및 자원 낭비를 경고하는 것으로도 표현하였다. 세계지도 일부분을 모티브로 사용한 작품에서는 현대사회의 화려한 삶과 인간의 생각이 서로 틀린 것이 아니라 다름을 나타내었다.
작업방식은 세계지도에 나와 있는 국가명이나 여러 기호 등의 레터링과 높이와 깊이를 입체적으로 표현하는 부분의 색상 등을 디지털 작업으로 완성하였다. 그런 후 캔버스에 디지털 프린트를 하고 그 위에 붓, 나이프를 사용하여 회화적인 터치로 아날로그 작업을 하였다. 그리고 큐빅, 스팽글, 광섬유 등의 오브제를 더하여 우주의 찬란한 빛과 현대사회의 물질만능주의와 인간 내면의 희로애락을 표현하였다. 이와 같은 방법으로 작업을 마무리 한 후 야광 물감을 사용하여 하나의 작품 속에 또 다른 숨겨진 작품을 만들어냄으로써 작가가 추구하는 내면의 이미지를 표현하는 페인팅 작업을 하였다. 야광 물감으로 페인팅 작업을 하는 경우 칠해지는 부분이 눈으로 보이지 않기 때문에 작업자의 감각에 의지해야 하므로 기능적인 테크닉이 많이 필요하다. 이는 연구자가 표현하고자 하는 내면의 세계가 야광 물감으로 우주 속의 신비하고 무한한 깊이 그리고 화려한 빛으로 형상화되었다.
본 연구는 세계지도 이미지를 이용하여 디지털 프린팅과 아날로그 기법을 혼합하여 독창적으로 실험하고 표현해 봄으로써 디지로그 아트의 발전 가능성과 앞으로 나아가야할 방향을 제시하고자 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Computer technology has become a necessity for any area in a diverse and complex modern society today. Many attempts have been made in the literature of designs and arts to recreate the traditional method of expression, and Digilog Art is holding its place with the help of computer technology, such as Internet, digital printing, and digital camera.
Digilog Art is capable of simultaneously expressing pure pictorialization as well as digital art like textile designs and graphic designs by using the tools of computers, tablets, digital cameras, and scanners instead of by using the traditional methods of brushes, colors, and objects. This is mainly aiming at enhancing its commercial, practical, and artistic value.
Images of a world-map used as a main motif of research works were partially taken from a globe, a mercator chart, and a world map.
The image of a globe is preciously perceived as the only thing in this world to shape the fact that the human life is plain. Images on the mercator's charts have the meaning of self-examining ourselves with full of our own triumphs and tragedies in our daily lives. And they represent the fact that human beings, living like a little frog on this planet in the expansive universe, are marginal but priceless. In addition, they serve as a reminder of warning about modern society's materialism and its environmental pollution, including human's wasteful use of resources.
Another case of works, using parts of a world map as their motif, shows the relationship between modern society's luxurious life and human's thoughts isn't wrong but different. Its method is firstly to make a lettering of its country names and legends shown in the world map, and secondly to complete the coloring works of expressing their height and depth tridimensionally. And then the analogic works are done with pictorial touch by using both brushes and knives on the canvas printed digitally. Some objects such as cubics, spangles, and optical fibers are added to express a brilliant light and modern materialism, including human's up and down. After completing the work in this way, noctilucent paints are added to show another one hidden in the work, which is intended to let the painter's inner image shown to the audience by painting with luminous painting materials. It takes great and delicate skills to paint with luminous paints. Since most of the painting works are invisible, they are mainly depending on only the painter's sense. This way the inner world that the researcher wishes to express is shaped as the mysterious and endless depth as well as splendid light.
This study aims to show the potentiality of Digilog Art and its promising prospective by expressing with the experiment of the hybrid works of digital printing and analogical technology.
