광복 전 여성잡지를 통해 본 여성체육 고찰 -1906년~1945년을 중심으로- = A study on women’s physical education in women’s magazines before Liberation: From 1906 to 1945

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study was to examine political influence upon women's hygiene and physical exercise in the early days of the 20th century, which was appeared in women's magazines in those days. Women's magazines in its early days presented such contents as enlightening women with the Western philosophy of hygiene, by getting out of the traditional conception of it. Although the awakening of women to their physical characteristics was carried out in the 1920s in full-scale, its philosophy of hygiene was different from that of men. The subjective contents of enlightenment for women in the 1930s were centered on the roles of a wise mother and good wife who was responsible for her children's physical improvement and hygiene. Rather than attaching importance to the women who carrying out housekeeping only, such women who practicing gymnastics or physical exercises were regarded as healthy in the 1920s and their obligation of bearing and upbringing a healthy child was highlighted. In the 1930s, women were required to have healthy body in order for them to play their social roles, and the cultivation of a healthy mother was emphasized.
