Theatre is a unique and irreplaceable comprehensive art. It covers a wide range of fields, integrates a variety of professional skills, and brings together the best of all walks of life. In theatre, the actor's performance skills are crucial, and to achieve superb performance levels, actors must accurately grasp the rhythm of language. Rhythm is the regular change accompanied by rhythm in nature, society and human activities. Through repetition, correspondence and other forms, various changing factors are organized to form a coherent and orderly whole, that is, rhythm. In theatretic performances, the rhythm of language is controlled by the characters' personalities, conflicts, and emotions. Therefore, the rhythm of language is one of the most direct factors closely related to theatre. The rhythm of language refers to the regular changes in length and stress that appear in character dialogue. During my study and stage practice, I came into contact with different types of characters in theatres and found that they used different methods of language rhythm. The accurate use of the rhythm of language can not only effectively reveal the character's personality, but also fully express the character's emotions. Therefore, the accurate use of the rhythm of language is an effective way to shape the character's image.
In life, language is an important tool for human communication. On the theatre stage and in film and television, language is an important means to explain plots, reveal thoughts, show conflicts, portray characters, and impress the audience. Language is a tool used by playwrights to create (what is written on paper is called "written language"). Speech is the means used by actors to embody the lines created by the writer on the stage. If an actor does not have well-trained verbal expression skills , often unable to speak the beautiful lines written by the writer vividly and contagiously. A theatre actor will play many roles of different ages, personalities, and types in his life. In addition to the vast differences in makeup and appearance, these roles also have different voices and styles. The speech must also be shaped according to the character's characteristics. This "makeup" of voice and speech also belongs to the basic language training. Making the voice and speech of theatre actors have plasticity is a very important part of stage speech training. The "laughing scene" incident in the charity performance of "Thunderstorm" at the Beijing People's Art Theater in 2015 is worth thinking about. The audience still laughed after the actors revealed the incest between the characters. Director Gu Wei said: "Classic play Actors are required not to speak nonsense in their lines, not to mess around in scheduling, and not to act out of shape. The actors themselves need to be determined. If a hilarious problem occurs in a certain scene, we must also treat it correctly. "Language itself is also an art, and the same lines. Different actors will have different effects under different expression methods.
The language skills of stage and film are basically the same. Some people mistakenly believe that in a theatre, you only need to raise your voice and amplify it. This concept ignores stage language skills, and actors who do not pay attention to basic skills and technical training will not be able to perform well on the stage. Problems such as slurred speech, hoarse voice, confusing logic, and boring language may occur. It can be seen from this that a person who can speak well in life may not necessarily be able to speak good lines on stage. To study this issue, we must first understand the relationship and difference between stage language and daily life language, and use this as a basis to master the basic expressions and rhythm of lines.
