「명주기봉」에 나타난 姊妹葛藤의 形相과 그 意味 = A Study on Patterns and Meanings of Conflicts and Confrontations between the Two Sisters Appearing in the 「Myeongjugibong」

The purpose of this research paper is to study and review about patterns and meanings of conflicts and confrontations between the two sisters appearing in the 「Myeongjugibong」. The novel describes conflicts and confrontations between the two sisters, and the images of women char- acters who try to think of sisterly affection as being the most important. The conflicts and confrontations between the two sisters lead to those between spouses. Their conflicts and confrontations result from the fact that the younger sister breaks the rule of marriage and in the long run, marries before her older sister, which are derived from favoritism that their parents show. The older sister who picks fights expresses the bitter feeling against her younger sister and parents. But, the younger sister does not hate but always feels sorry to her older sister against her. After the conflicts and confrontations between the two are settled, each position of the two sisters is switched for each other's one given to them before a bitter feeling develops.
Judging from the conflicts and confrontations between spouses that follow those between the two sisters, it can be concluded that a woman at the age tend to think and behave from an angle of her older sisters, above all, but meanwhile, her husband or husband's families refuse to accept or respect her attitude such as this, and instead, they request her to put the duties or obligations that a wife and a daughter-in-law has to do, ahead of any other things. But such a severe feud and discord are, finally, settled in a comic scene and laughter that the characters provide.
The conflicts and confrontations between the two sisters appearing in 「Myeongjugibong」 is significant in the sense that the book reveals that the parental favoritism arouses family chaos and that it is natural but never easy for a married woman to show love toward her sisters and remain faithful to them for ever.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 국문장편소설 「명주기봉」에 나타난 姊妹葛藤의 재현방식을 통해 이 작품의 女性 友愛에 대한 認識을 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 「명주기봉」은 쌍둥이 姊妹의 葛藤을 통해 友愛를 지키고자 하는 女性이 겪는 內的, 外的 葛藤을 많은 분량을 할애해 그려낸다. 이 葛藤의 원인을 家父長의 偏愛로 제시해 姊妹葛藤이 비단 女性의 人性에 의해 벌어지는 것만이 아닐 수 있음과 家門의 안정을 위해 필요한 家父長의 자질의 하나로 자녀 養育에 대한 바른 태도를 제시한다. 또 女性의 友愛에 대한 인정은 이 작품이 親庭에의 지향이나 女性의 입지점을 드러내는 것과 동시에 婚姻한 家門과의 연대가 家門의 횡적 기반을 안정적으로 다져나가는 방법이라는 시각으로까지 이어진다. 이처럼 「명주기봉」에 나타난 姊妹葛藤과 그 解決方式은 이 작품의 수평적 人間關係에 대한 관심과 아울러 家門의식에 대한 認識을 확인할 수 있게 한다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
