ABSTRACT

Study on Adaptation to University Life by Foreign students
in Pusan and Gyeong-nam areas:
Focusing on Moderating effect of University Service

The number of Foreign students are total 63,952 persons in Korea in 2008 and it has found that it increased by 4 times from 16,832 ones in 2004 for 4 years. The reason that foreign students in Korea rapidly increased is that the Korean government has been actively a strong position to attract them as aspect to expand them has internationally appeared.
Inflow of many foreign students can have the positive effects on various aspects. But adaptation to new environment is big tasks for them, they experience mental and physical stress while they get to adapt to their university life and many cases that they escape from the universities and illegally stay in Korea have occurred.
The institutions that directly can help foreign students to live in their university life are universities but there are many cases that educational courses or classes for them are not prepared and administrative and educational support are not smoothly done. Many foreign students cannot be properly supported to adapt to korea.
In this problem awareness, the purpose of this study to examine how the university service has an effect on adaption to the university life by foreign students. stress to adapt to Korean culture and ability level to be good at Korean which are the internal factors of foreign students that has an biggest effect on adaption to the university life are considered as the independent variables and adaptation to the university life is done as a dependent variable. It was analyzed how the university life service control the relations between them.
This study collected the data by carrying out the survey on foreign students who are in the universities in Pusan and Gyeongnam areas. Questionnaire was used by Chinese, Japanese and English as well as Korea considering their Korean ability.
It is meaningful as the basic material to devise a solution about society problems related to foreign students and as the previous study to seek to improve the quality of life by them in Korea. Also the result of this study can present useful implication in seeking the university service operation plan that can be practically helpful to the foreign students.

2008년 국내 외국인 유학생은 총 63,952명으로 2004년 16,832명에서 4년 사이에 무려 4배 가까이 증가한 것으로 나타나고 있다. 국내에서 외국인 유학생이 급증하게 된 것은 전 세계적으로 유학생의 확대 양상이 나타나면서 한국 정부에서도 유학생의 유치에 적극적으로 나섰기 때문이다.
많은 외국인 유학생들이 유입되는 것은 다양한 측면에서 긍정적인 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 그러나 새로운 환경에 적응한다는 것은 외국인 유학생들에게 큰 과제이며 그 과정 속에서 많은 정신적·육체적 스트레스를 경험하게 되고, 많은 외국인 유학생들이 대학에서 이탈하여 불법체류를 하게 되는 사례가 발생하고 있다.
외국인 유학생 생활에 직접적인 도움을 줄 수 있는 기관이 대학교이지만, 유학생을 위한 교육과정이나 강의, 행정적·교육적 지원이 원활하게 이루어지지 않은 경우도 많이 있다. 많은 외국인 유학생들이 한국에 적응할 수 있는 도움을 제대로 받지 못하고 있는 실정이다.
이러한 문제의식 속에서 본 연구는 대학교 서비스가 외국인 유학생의 대학생활적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 대학생활적응에 있어 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 외국인 유학생의 내적 요인인 문화적응 스트레스와 한국어 숙달정도를 독립변수로 보고, 대학생활적응을 종속변수로 보았는데, 대학생활서비스가 둘의 관계를 어떻게 조절하는지 분석해 보았다.
본 연구는 부산·경남지역의 대학교에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실사하여 자료를 수집하였다. 설문지는 외국유학생의 한국어 수준을 고려하여 중국어, 일본어, 영어 설문지도 함께 사용하였다.
외국인 유학생 관련 사회 문제에 대한 해결책을 강구하기 위한 기초자료로서, 그리고 국내 외국인 유학생의 삶의 질 향상을 모색하기 위한 사전 연구로서 의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 또한 본 연구결과를 통해 외국인 유학생에게 실질적 도움을 줄 수 있는 대학교 서비스 운영방안을 모색에 유용한 시사점을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
