      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

      ESS has been known to possess phytohemagglutinin activity.
      This study was undertaken to evaluate whether ESS has an effect on hematopoietic activity in rabbit.
      Every rabbit of experimental group was injected 1.Oml of ESS extract intravenously immediated after bleeding and studied peripheral blood in R. B. C count, hematocrit, hemoglobin, reticulocyte count, total leukocyte count, lymphocyte and granulocyte count. The results obtained are as follow
      1. It was noted that R. B. C count, hemoglobin and hematocrit were markedly decreased on the 1st
      and 2nd day after injection.
      2. Previously decreased hematologic data showed tendency to increase from 6th day after injection but it's recovery was delayed.
      3. Higher level of peripheral leukocyte count in early stage was noted.
      4. Increase of total leukocyte count was due to mainly increased number of lymphocytes and granulocyte in peripheral blood.
      5. As the result of those observation, it can be stated that ESS seems to delay the erythropoietic activity but it seems to have potency to inerease in peripheral lymphocyte at earlier stage.
