The purpose of this study is to investigate the "Miscellaneous Pattern Theory from the Perspective of Myeongriyakeon" by Jin So-am, who ruthlessly rejected the "borrowing of miscellaneous patterns" in classical Myeongri works such as Yeonhaejapyeong and Myeongrijeongjong. For this purpose, the study examined the origin of Miscellaneous Pattern Theory as a subset of the whole Gyeokgukron and summed up the validity of the Myeongriyakeon perspective that argued the miscellaneous patterns of Yeonhaejapyeong and Myeongrijeongjong in the flow of the Myeongrihak history from a modern perspective.
In the Miscellaneous Pattern Theory of Myeongriyakeon in the genealogy of Japyeongmyeongri's Gyeokgukron that went down in the modern Myeongrihak history, there is a point starting with Guseo or Guchui. The Miscellaneous Pattern Theory from the perspective of Myeongriyakeon seems to insist on the theory to reject miscellaneous patterns along with Sinsal in the dark or in a loud voice to reach anyone sometimes, being conscious of the old Myeongri theories such as Yeonhaejapyeong and Myeongrijeongjong. It can be also found in Jin So-am's opinion about the perspective of his eldest son's work Myeongrijeongjong in "Jangsinbungbyeokohaengjeryu" that added the Bu of 24 Miscellaneous Pattern Rules in the Gwonsa chapter at the end of the Myeongriyakeon. He was a government official, and his eldest son was a Myeongrisulsa. Miscellaneous Pattern Theory of Myeongriyakeon made him, who was a high-rank official in early Qing, reject Sinsal as well as miscellaneous patterns as useless theories. Making a further step, he criticized the Myeongri theories that became conventional in Song and Ming including Seo Dae-seung's Yeonhaejapyeong and Jang Sin-bong's Myeongrijeongjong. He even had enormous impacts on Im Cheol-cho's Jeokcheonsucheonmi. Myeongriyakeon holds its value as a literature material, arranging clearly and criticizing the core summaries of Japyeongmyeongri in the process of inheriting the genealogy as a bridge.
In short, the present study excavated the latest text(2022) about the Miscellaneous Pattern Theory from the Perspective of Myeongriyakeon and reinterpreted it from a modern perspective. The findings were as follows:
First, the "periodic perspective for Gyeokguk's dynamics and pitches" for Japyeongmyeongri Gyeokgukyongsin led to the rejection of using miscellaneous patterns in the Miscellaneous Pattern Theory from the Perspective of Myeongriyakeon. Starting with Yeonhaejapyeong, it became common that most Myeongri books defined Gyeokguk based on the conditions of the entire Saju rather than Wolryeong in a discussion about Gyeokguk. Of them, a special pattern was called a miscellaneous pattern. The superiority and inferiority of Saju Myeongjo depended on the pitches of Gyeokguk.
Secondly, the study compared the theory to reject miscellaneous patterns in Myeongriyakeon with the theory to advocate them in a modern viewpoint based on some grounds. Many miscellaneous patterns including Yohapgyeok excavated in the research process belong to Yeonghyangyogyeron by Hapchung based on Western astrology and can be explained with the relations of Chiljeongsayeo, Sammyeong and Saju. As the logic of astrology was connected to Sammyeong, a new term "Yohap" was created to define contradicting relations. Chiljeongsayeo has two theoretical grounds for Yohapron. One of them is the content about the Bunpodeukgyeong of the zodiac in Sasipisangron of Hyeonmyogyeonghae, and the other is the Aspect theory of astrology. Follow-up studies will hopefully invest much interest and research efforts in them.
Finally, the perspective of Myeongriyakeon is a key to the usefulness of Japyeong Myeongri in modern times, as well, holding its validity. There is, however, a need to reinvestigate miscellaneous patterns given the diversity of modern society separate from the academic research findings of Myeongriyakeon.
In a systematic research process of Myeongrihak, Gyeokguk Yongsin is the core theory of Japyeong Myeongri with Gyeokguk described as the "framework" of Saju's overall meanings. Yongsin is like the image of a cross-stitch determined within a framework based on the establishment of Gyeokguk. Gyeokguk and Yongsin become milestones and standards to navigate through the fortunes of a sailboat called Saju Myeongjo.
The study proposes that "miscellaneous patterns," the classical term of Qing for miscellaneous and useless, and "special patterns," the common term under the major class, should be changed to "special patterns represent miscellaneous patterns and vice versa" in the viewpoint of modern Yeonghyangyogyeron under the minor class.
