Ceramic filters made of natural alumino silicate(zeolite) were fabricated and their properties such as contents, Si/Al ratio, CEC and break through curve were investigated.
X-ray diffraction(XRD) patterns showed that both the natural and calcinated zeolites contain modernite and clinoptilolite as principal contents, and a small amount of quartz and tridymite as impurities.
However, the XRD patterns from impurites were decreased as the zeolitewas calcinated at the temperature over 400℃. The Si/Al ratio indicating structural stability of zeolite and the CEC(Cation Exchange Capacity) presenting purity of zeolite were 6.07 and 122meq/100g, respectively when the zeolite was calcinated at 600℃ for 4 hours. NO ammonia gas was detected for 270 minutes through the zeolite filter.
We conclude that the ceramic filter made of calcinated natural zeolite is useful for ammonia removal.
