Abstract
In the current rapidly changing society and economy, the 4th industrial revolution, and the increasingly sophisticated manufacturing industry, the strategy of SMEs is becoming survival. Large companies are making some progress in manufacturing innovation based on factory automation.
On the other hand, the progress of small and medium-sized enterprises is still insufficient, and ICT and software, which are the core foundations of the ‘Smart Factory’, which is the core of the 4th industry, are not organically combined with the production site.
SMEs in the current situation are gradually introducing the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) manufacturing computer system to improve production efficiency and reduce manufacturing lead-time, aiming for inventory optimization and data-based management decision-making. It has difficulties such as excessive expenditure of introduction cost and deterioration of efficiency after introduction.
In this study, the background, introduction process, and results of MES introduction in small and medium-sized medical device manufacturers were studied by studying the case of company A, and the background, introduction process, and results of introduction were analyzed.
Research background: First, changes in the manufacturing industry; second, the necessity and background of introducing MES in the medical device field according to the characteristics of the medical device industry;
Third, the need to introduce MES was analyzed in terms of institutional change factors.
Based on the above background, MES introduction cases of small and medium-sized medical device manufacturers were studied, and it was necessary to introduce a system that considered the characteristics of small and medium-sized enterprises in the process of introduction and construction, and discussed the application of a form that considered the situation of small and medium-sized enterprises. In addition, we looked at the reasons for the failure of MES introduction, such as lack of sufficient analysis, data quality problems, lack of user training, and technical problems, and studied the situation reflected in the time and cost aspects of this company A case.
After the introduction of company A, the process of introducing MES and introduction items by business area were reviewed, and changes in the business process system for each category were discussed. Through this, the before-and-after changes and their effects were analyzed for each task.
Changes and their effects were analyzed by comparative analysis of indicators before and after the introduction of MES for three years in the material management field and inventory management change as major application case indicators of Company A.
In this study, the necessity of MES establishment in small and medium-sized medical device manufacturing companies and the introduction results were examined through examples. In addition to the time and cost required, it requires an application level appropriate to the scale and a large amount of human and material investment as well as the will and effort of the company to introduce it, but it can be inferred that the appropriate introduction at the appropriate level will definitely lead to improvement in business performance. .
Through this, it is hoped that many domestic SMEs, especially medical equipment SMEs, will be able to use it as an in-depth consideration of MES introduction and advice on the introduction results.
