The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of college level liberal arts dance courses on the satisfaction level of lectures as a method of instruction and study utilizing instructional media, to assist with improving the quality of instructional media of its instructional and study sides and of dance study, and to draw a strategy for effective lectures.
Visual media, one of popular instructional media currently being used in dance lectures, was used to analyze the effectiveness of instructional media on dance lectures to grasp the concept of dance as a college level liberal arts course, its current status, and the effectiveness of instructional media upon dance lectures. The survey was conducted among three hundred fifty students currently enrolled in liberal arts dance courses and the results are summarized as follows.
First, the satisfaction level of dance lectures according to demographic characteristics illustrated that students of different genders, from different class years, of dance majors and ones not, and all elements participating in dance indicate a satisfaction level above average when utilized with visual media. It clearly shows that students were in positive recognition of dance lectures utilizing media and the utilization of instructional media. In other words, the utilization of instructional media increased students' satisfaction level of dance lectures.
Second, the satisfaction level of lectures depending on the characteristic of lecture participation illustrated a high satisfaction level among students who selected items with a relatively high participation and the satisfaction level of lectures depending on previous experiences of educational visual media illustrated a relatively high satisfaction level between experienced and inexperienced students. The satisfaction level of visual media lectures according to the recognition level of the quality of educational visual media showed a high satisfaction in every factor.
Third, the casualty between the satisfaction level of lectures and factors were influencing the effect of educational visual media on the overall satisfaction with lectures and instructional abilities positively. But, however, it was not influencing the effectiveness and contents of lectures in an attentive way. In other words, when the instructional ability is displayed on the basis of visual media, it will lead to a high satisfaction on lectures.
Thus, it is confirmed that the effect of college level liberal arts dance courses utilizing instructional media on the satisfaction with lectures was positive throughout the satisfaction level of lectures. However, while the effectiveness on dance lectures was high among students majoring in dance, it was clearly not affecting students not majoring in dance positively.
In other words, based on the result of this study, students’ satisfaction level of dance lectures utilizing instructional media was high in overall, but in contrast, its effectiveness was low. Therefore, utilization of visual educational media in accord with lecture contents, its quality, and provide of effective contents designed for individual professors are important factors in increasing the effectiveness of lectures.
