유아의 성별, 기질과 어머니의 양육방식이유아의 또래 상호작용에 미치는 영향 = A study of the effects of a mother`s parenting style, her child`s gender and temperament on the child`s peer interactions

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study investigates differences in young children’s peer interactions according to gender. temperament and their mothers’ parenting styles, categorized in this study as social parenting styles and permit-threshold setting parenting styles. The study then examines the effects of these on children’s peer interactions, categorized as 1) play disruption, 2) play disconnection and 3 play interaction). The data of this study were collected from 1,718 children aged 36∼42 months, and their parents who participated in the 4th Panel Study of Korean Children conducted by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (2011). Cluster analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and regression analysis were use to analyze the data. The results show that 1) the boys had higher scores in play disruption and play disconnection than did the girls and 2) girls scored higher in play interaction. 3) Temperament proved to be a significant variable impacting on peer play interactions. 4) There were also significant differences among peer play in teractions (play disruption, play disconnection, play interaction) between social parenting style groups and permit-threshold setting parenting style groups: regression analysis revealed that a child’s gender and temperament and a mother’s parenting style impacted on play disruption by 15.2%, on play disconnection by 24.9%, and on play interaction by 24.1%. These insightful findings contribute to our knowledge on how to assist children in learning and development and have immediate implications for parent education programs and intervention strategies planning.
