비행청소년의 보호관찰경험에 관한 연구 = A Study on the Probation Experience of Adolescent Delinquents

This study is to know whether an adolescent probation serves the prevention of second offense and the rehabilitation of adolescent delinquents by looking into their probation experience from the perspective of insider. In this study, the grounded theory is used, because it is an the most effective way to reveal systematically in which condition and context an adolescent probation has an effectiveness. In this study, 14 adolescents were interviewed and 4 different types of probation experience were classified through an open, a connecting and a selected coding to interview data: ‘an active compliance type-heteronomous’, ‘an active compliance type-autonomous’, ‘a passive compliance type’, ‘a reluctant compliance type.’ From technically analyzing the phenomena into a process of reactions, coping, and adjustments according to the flow of time, 5 steps of an adolescent probation, encounters→delinquency→probation→reflection→hope, were identified. These steps are specifically described as follows: ‘lonely friends meet,’ ‘to gratify desire and misconduct as amusement,’ ‘to conform outwardly to probation,’ ‘inner acceptance or to harbor antipathy,’ ‘to erase memory or to have a hope.’ Whether an adolescent probationer converts the outward conformity to probation into the inner acceptance or reluctance depends on his reflection and repentance regarding his misconduct. This fact is to show that if an adolescent probationer stays in the pre-conventional step of morality caused by a negative support system, two goals of probation, the prevention of recidivism and rehabilitation, cannot be fully accomplished. Thus, to provide the psychological and emotional support system to replace the negative support system, the various measures should be sought.
