≪대한매일신보≫ 소재 경제가사 연구 = The comment poetry on current topics of economy in the Daehan Maeil Sinbo

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The Daehan Maeil Sinbo(the Sinbo) was established newspapers by UK journalist Ernest Thomas Bethell in 1904. The Sinbo's writing staff like Yang Ki-Tak and Sin Chai-ho created it. The Sinbo was emphasized strenuous efforts of the Korean people. This study focuses on the comment poetry on current topics of economy in the Sinbo(the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa). I consider it as a message in the language activities. Having selected 224 the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa works from the comment poetry on current topics in the Sinbo. I considered microeconomics and macroeconomics phenomenon, because the Sinbo's Economy Gasa reflected all sorts of economy of the Korean Empire.
Chapter 2 deals with background of the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa through literary context and Socio-cultural context. The Sinbo’s Economy Gasa succeed pulse Economy Gasa which was created in the late of Chosun Dynasty. As Chosun society was getting complex, themes of Gasa was expanded into economy. Economy Gasa interconnected with Didactic Gasa by didactic mode, thus it delivered an economic action to the readers. The Sinbo’s Economy Gasa appeared in this literary atmosphere. It was carried on the newspapers and was aimed at multi-people.
Meanwhile, the prose editorial and the comment poetry on current topics were reported in the Sinbo. The prose editorial formed economy discourse which were composited economic problems and crisis passing. And the prose editorial transformed into the comment poetry on current topics by adding poetic meter. The Sinbo’s Economy Gasa delivers economy discourse to public reader, thus it helped public reader to change of thought.
Chapter 3 explores economic circumstance described in the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa. As a result of analysis, firstly, from the production aspects, factors of production are vulnerable by the economic situations in and outside the country. Secondly, Antinational Actor like Korean Empire corrupt officials, Japanese Imperialism, the Japanese people, and Ilchinhoe cause of income inequality. Thirdly, there are cautious about luxury, households debt and real estate auction. Fourthly, there is inequality exchange in an international market. In order to overcome this problem, the Korean people are producing industrial goods in the workshop. Fifthly, Japanese Imperialism seizes Korean Public Financial Management and screwed introduction of loan out of the Korean Empire government. Thus, I revealed that the lives of our ancestors existed varied aspects in socio-economical settings in Japanese Residency-General period.
Chapter 4 examines thematic consciousnesses of the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa for grasping the Sinbo's writing staff understood economic condition and semantic structure of the text. Thematic consciousnesses of it are based on Chapter 3, because writing staff’s consciousnesses are intervening between economic facts and meanings to economic facts. And then, thematic consciousnesses of it are drawn 'brotherhood', 'consciousness of crisis', 'economical self-reliance' and 'will of protecting national sovereignty.' Thus, I found that humanism is at the base of thematic consciousness of the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa, and it has inherent critical consciousness against the Korean Empire corrupt officials and Japanese Imperialism.
Chapter 5 reveals values of the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa in the history of Korean Literature. Firstly, the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa succeed pulse the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa which was created in the late of Chosun Dynasty. Secondly, the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa was new writing style which formed economical public opinions in those days. Thirdly, economic realities reproduced the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa had reality and reality and reliability, so I noticed that the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa gained sympathy from a number of readers. Fourthly, humanism is at the bottom of the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa, therefore I realized that the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa formed economical public opinions, the main point of them were restoring human dignity, the Korean Empire economy construction and increasing national wealth. Fifthly, the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa used a lot of examples to deliver rules of economic live, thus it as a guideline which delivers economic development ways accomplished the role. Sixthly, the Sinbo’s Economy Gasa that exists today is an invaluable cultural inheritance, because it pass down about lessons and wisdom which future generations can handle the logic of power in the international society.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고의 논의는 ≪대한매일신보≫(이하 ≪신보≫) 경제가사를 언어 전달 행위상의 메시지로 간주하고, 경제적 총체의 관점에서 조명하고자 하는 데서 출발하였다. 본고는 ≪신보≫에 게재된 시평가사 중에서 경제 분야를 소재로 다루고 있는 작품 224편을 경제가사로 선별하였다. 그리하여 본고는 경제적 총체의 관점에서 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 출현 배경, 내용, 주제 의식 및 문학사적 의의를 살펴보았다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 ‘한국’이라는 일국의 경제 제반 현상을 수용하고 있으므로, 본고는 미시경제 측면과 거시경제 측면을 동시에 고려하였다. 이상에서 언급한 논의의 출발점과 방향성에 의해 수행된 본고의 내용은, 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다.
2장에서는 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 출현 배경을 문학적 맥락과 사회 · 문화적 맥락에서 살펴보았다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 조선후기에 가사문학의 하위 유형으로 정착한 경제가사의 맥을 계승하고 있다. 조선후기에 복잡다단한 사회를 거치면서 가사의 소재 범위는 경제 분야까지 확대되었다. 경제가사는 교술성에 의해 교훈가사와 결합함으로써, 독자에게 경제 행동의 지침을 전달하였다. 이러한 문학적 분위기에서 ≪신보≫ 경제가사가 출현하였다. 그런데 ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 근대적 인쇄 매체인 신문에 수록되어 바람직한 경제 행위를 다층적 독자에게 전달하고 있다.
한편, ≪신보≫는 산문 논설과 시평가사를 한 호에 실어, ≪신보≫ 집필진과 대한매일신보사의 의견을 논리적으로 전달하였다. 본고는 ≪신보≫의 시평가사를 대상으로 다루고 있기 때문에 산문 논설을 중심으로 사회 · 문화적 맥락을 살펴보았다. ≪신보≫의 산문 논설은 당대의 경제 문제와 경제 위기를 극복할 수 있는 대안을 대중 독자에게 전달함으로써 공적 차원에서 경제 담론을 형성하였다. 아울러 ≪신보≫의 산문 논설에 율격을 가미하면, 산문 논설은 시평가사로 전이될 수 있다. 이때 경제를 소재로 다루는 시평가사는 독자에게 경제 담론을 함축적으로 전달함으로써, 독자에게 경제적 사고의 전환을 경험할 수 있도록 효용성을 발휘하였을 것으로 파악하였다.
3장에서는 ≪신보≫ 경제가사로 선별된 작품을 중심으로 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 내용을 살펴보았다. 첫째, ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 국내 경제 · 정치 문제로 인해 생산 요소가 취약해졌고, 이를 극복하기 위한 대안을 모색하고 있음을 분석하였다. 둘째, ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 탐관오리, 일제, 일본인, 일진회 등 반민 세력의 수탈로 소득이 왜곡되었음을 고찰하였다. 셋째, ≪신보≫ 경제가사가 사치를 억제할 것을 강조하고, 부채를 경계하고 있음을 규명하였다. 넷째, 국제 시장에서 부등가 교환으로 한국이 불리한 입지에 처해 있고, 이를 극복하기 위해 이차 산품을 특화하는 방향을 강구하고 있음을 파악하였다. 다섯째, 한국 정부의 재정 위기와 이를 극복하기 위해 한국인이 이권 수호 운동을 전개하였음을 구명하였다. 이로써 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 내용이 당대의 경제 분야에 있었던 객관적 사실이나 현상을 수용하고 있음을 알았다.
4장에서는 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 작자인 집필진이 당대의 경제 현실을 이해하는 방식을 살펴보기 위해 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 주제 의식을 살펴보았다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 주제 의식은 3장에서 분석하였던 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 내용에 기초하였다. 사실 그 자체와 작자가 사실에 부여하는 의미 사이에는 작가의 의식이 개입하기 때문이다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 주제 의식은 ‘동포애’, ‘위기의식’, ‘경제적 자립 의지’ 및 ‘국권 수호 의지’ 등 네 가지로 도출하였다. 그리하여 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 주제 의식의 기저에는 인본주의가 작용하고, 반민 세력에 대한 비판 의식이 내재되어 있음을 규명하였다. 이로써 본고는 텍스트의 의미 구조를 파악하는 성과를 동시에 거둘 수 있었다.
5장에서는 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 의의를 조명하였다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 조선후기에 가사문학의 하위 유형으로 등장한 경제가사의 맥을 계승하고 있다. ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 통감부 치하에서 경제 여론을 형성하는 새로운 글쓰기 방식이다. 그리고 ≪신보≫ 가사에 재현된 경제 현실이 사실성, 신뢰성을 획득하고 있으므로, 작자가 ≪신보≫ 경제가사를 매개로 다층적 독자와 공감대를 형성하고 소통할 수 있는 장을 마련한 것으로 이해하였다. 또한 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 주제 의식은 인본주의를 기저로 하고 있으므로, ≪신보≫ 경제가사가 인간의 존엄성 회복, 한국의 근대적 경제 건설 및 국부 증강을 골자로 하는 경제 여론을 형성하고 있는 것으로 파악하였다. 아울러 ≪신보≫ 경제가사에서 제시하는 경제 위기의 극복 방안은 당대의 한국인에게 경제생활상의 지침서로 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 지녔음을 고찰하였다. 나아가 한국 문학의 연속선상에서 ≪신보≫ 경제가사는 선조가 후손에게 국제 사회의 힘의 논리에 대처하는 교훈과 지혜를 전달하는 유산이라는 점에서 문학적 가치가 있음을 살펴보았다.
6장에서는 지금까지 고찰한 일련의 연구 과정과 그 결과를 종합 정리하였다.
이상의 논의를 통해 본고는 ≪신보≫ 경제가사의 출현 배경, 내용, 주제 의식 및 문학적 의의를 고찰하였다. 본고는 가사문학의 하위 유형으로서 경제가사를 논의할 수 있는 근거를 새롭게 마련하고, 이를 토대로 ≪신보≫ 경제가사에 대한 논의를 이끌어 내고자 하였다. 가사문학의 하위 유형으로서 경제가사는 경제 현실을 다루는 가사 작품을 이해하는 데 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
