The purpose of this study is to describe and evaluate the world missions program at Shin Banpo Presbyterian church in Seoul, Korea. Specifically, it describes and evaluates the three main components of the church's missions program: namely, activities promoting missions awareness, activities mobilizing prayer and financial support for missions, and activities helping missions-minded members experience cross-cultural ministry.
The second chapter on the biblical foundations for mission deals with the idea of the people of God in terms of their missionary task in the world. Although the idea of a missionary people has its roots in the Old Testament, it comes to its fullest realization in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, and subsequently through the development and work of the early Christian church. The local church and its pastor should motivate, mobilize and train the people for a greater participation in world missions in obedience to the Great Commission.
The third chapter on the methods and procedures of the project discusses the design and implementation of Shin Banpo Presbyterian Church's missions program. Its many diverse activities are developed and organized around three basic themes: awareness (Missions Sundays, Mission Korea Convention, vision trips, missions conference), support (prayer meetings, gifts, letters), and personal experience (short-term mission trips, global training opportunities, missionary training).
The fourth chapter on the results of the study tests the three major hypotheses established at the beginning of the project. First, a restructured and adequately staffed missions committee and a properly equipped pastoral staff would work together effectively. Second, a substantial number of people, particularly young adults, would volunteer for short- and long-term cross-cultural ministries. Third, significantly more number of members would regularly practice missionary giving and praying. Three hypotheses have been confirmed by the data collected through surveys and other records.
