Factors Associated with Patient Safety Management Activities among Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit Nurses: Technostress, Alarm Fatigue, Presenteeism, and Patient Safety Culture Woorim Song Advisor : Prof. Yoo, Jae Yong. Ph. D. Department of nursing Graduate School of Chosun University Purpose: This descriptive cross-sectional study aimed to examine levels of technostress, alarm fatigue, presenteeism, patient safety culture, and patient safety management activities among emergency department and intensive care unit nurses, and to identify factors associated with patient safety management activities. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted with 135 nurses working in the emergency department and intensive care units of a tertiary general hospital in G Metropolitan City, South Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis with SPSS Statistics version 30.0. Results: Patient safety management activities were positively correlated with patient safety culture (r=.536, p<.001) and technostress (r=.211, p=.014). Alarm fatigue was negatively correlated with patient safety culture (r=-.303, p<.001), whereas presenteeism was not significantly correlated with patient safety management activities. The multiple regression model was statistically significant (F=16.764, p<.001), and explained 34.0% of the variance in patient safety management activities(R²=.340, adjusted R²=.320). Patient safety culture (β=.563, p<.001) and technostress (β=.185, p=.027) were significant predictors of patient safety management activities, with patient safety culture being the strongest predictor.Alarm fatigue and presenteeism were not significant predictors. Conclusion: Patient safety culture and technostress were significant factors associated with patient safety management activities among emergency department and intensive care unit nurses. In particular, patient safety culture had the strongest association, suggesting that organizational factors such as safety-oriented values, open communication, teamwork, and leadership are critical for promoting patient safety management activities in high-acuity clinical settings. The positive association between technostress and patient safety management activities may indicate that technology-related demands can be perceived as facilitating resources when nurses effectively use medical devices and health information technologies for patient monitoring, clinical decision-making, and safe nursing care. Therefore, healthcare organizations should prioritize strategies to strengthen patient safety culture and provide systematic education and organizational support to enhance nurses' effective and adaptive use of healthcare technologies. Key words: Emergency Department Nurses, Intensive Care Unit Nurses, Technostress, Alarm Fatigue, Presenteeism, Patient Safety Culture, Patient Safety Management Activities
