The rapid urbanization in our cities since the 1970's made emphasis focused on development rather than quality of life.
A paradigm of the city we live in is changing to improving the quality of life, this kind of value of life is currently requiring a high amenity of urban environment than ever before.
The concept of "Healthy Cities" was introduced in order to achieve such a high level of urban environment, many studies are underway both domestically and internationally.
Healthy city paradigm of the past dealt with overall physical and non-physical factors of the city, but now the importance of the physical factors are emphasizes and it was reported that the physical design cause a synergy to non-physical factors.
In this research, physical planning is seen as an important indicator of the health city's composition; therefore, the research is used to analyze the physical factors necessary to create a healthy city that can be utilized in practice for the cities which has stopped growing but carries the paradigm as 'healthy'.
The scope of the research targets analysis from healthy cities conference and agenda (WHO and Agenda21 etc) and both domestic and international leading research and research reports.
Method of research is to configure the available physical health indicators in urban development planning process. First, domestic research, international reports, and academic study were referred to derived the physical elements of the healthy city. Second, final indicators of urban structure and the facilities were drawn from the frequent high index. Third, because indexes are not in equal hierarchical value, AHP analysis were used to draw out the indexes which can be use as a future guide lines and checklists.
Indicators derived from previous studies were mostly about the city structure than facilities, and as in previous research, AHP analysis of hierarchical values of each indicator results city structure is more important for healthy city.
Implications for research are that there are no plans which could be practically used in the process of planning, compared to overseas construction cases, and checklists and guidelines are needed for creating Healthy City.
This research discussed about actual plan index for Healthy City, and there needs to be policy and design-related efforts in order to become socially and physically fit via more specific checklists and guidelines.
