고전소설의 인물묘사와 독서미감

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The present study examines how classical novels approach character description and how different patterns of approach affect readers to form different esthetic appreciation of reading in the reading process. Protagonists, whether male or female, are represented as ideal human beings by systematizing the meanings of modifiers. From this approach, readers acquire linguistic esthetic appreciation. Villain protagonists are represented as grotesque characters with negative descriptors and judgemental vocabulary. From this approach, readers get ethical esthetic appreciation. Classic characters are represented by embracing authentic precedents, from which readers enjoy intellectual esthetic appreciation by activating their knowledge of the classics. And hierarchical vocabularies are woven with action verbs to represent animated characters, from which readers gain intellectual aesthetic appreciation by activating their knowledge of everyday life. As shown in the examples, different patterns of character description in classical novels constitute diverse elements of esthetic appreciation and joy of novel reading.
