The advance in information technology has a huge impact on education, including textbooks. The existing printed textbooks could be said to be one-sided, but two-way e-textbooks are now called for.
Specifically, music education is in want of the type of textbook that could give all the audio-visual and oral stimuli to students, but there are actually little opportunities for them to be exposed to music, except in class where they sing with their teacher or listen to music. Therefore, e-textbook is required to help them listen to music and sing when they are alone.
The purpose of this study was to develop the type of textbook that is suitable for music education without being restricted by time and space.
It's planned to produce an elementary music e-textbook for grade 4 based on XML, the standard of e-document. The current music textbook focuses on topic songs, but e-textbook would be composed of two different areas, understanding and activities, to make theme-based enrichment instruction possible. In relation to singing sector in the activity area, MusicXML, one of XML-applied fields that makes it easier to prepare and modify music sheets in GUI(Graphic User Interface) situation would be utilized to let learners acquire music more successfully.
