보석 커트 형상을 활용한 의상디자인 연구

Since the beginning of humanity, people have put efforts to make up and dress up themselves using the beautiful and valuable objects in order to express personal taste and image. Jewel has been used as an accessory with economical and artistic value and continuously developed in order to meet the aesthetic desire of people. Unique gloss and beautiful color of jewel is maximized through cutting method which has been developed for a long time, and the beauty of cutting form itself has the unique beauty.
Thus, this study aims at introducing formativeness of this jewel cutting form to fashion in order to develop unique design with new expressive technique and to fabricate the work.
Basic knowledge is obtained through theoretical study; literature materials including professional publications, papers, and different articles are referred to analyze fashion design cases using jewel cutting form; and fashion collection is analyzed for the ready-to-wear collection from 2005 S/S to 2015 S/S.
6 types of cutting are mainly used including Round, Emerald, Fair, Oval, Marquise, and Heart cuts for fashion design. It is analyzed by silhouette and style to understanding the characteristics of fashion design to which 6 types of jewel cutting are applied. Modern silhouette and block color are mainly used for the fashion design to which a jewel cutting form is used, and jewel decoration and glossy material are used to express fancy and feminine image. And sometimes jewel is directly decorated on the fashion mainly with general jewel setting methods.
Based on the analysis, 4 cutting forms of Round, Emerald, Oval, and Fair were selected and used to fabricate 8 pieces of clothes.
In the work, modern straight silhouette and hour-glass silhouette emphasizing womanly beauty and black, white, and beige colors are used to express calm and elegant image. Jewel cutting form is re-interpreted as a pattern design using laser cutting method. The laser pattern of jewel cutting form engraved on the flat surface of leather material used as the main material is more clearly highlighted, and jewel was fabricated to use jewel directly on the joint for different patterns.
With the study, the followings have been found. Firstly, diversified possibilities for expression have been sought by combining the fashion and jewel as a new express method for the fashion design. Jewel becomes the chain of fashion so the silhouette is changed with it detached, and it can be replaced with different shape one for customized expression in order for different images.
Secondly, it is found that jewel accessory can become an effective element to complete fashion; to express different styles; to change image. It is confirmed that mood can be far different with/without jewel decoration by analyzing the fashion design to which jewel cutting form is applied.
Thirdly, extensive possibility has been suggested that the aesthetic formativeness of jewel cutting form can be combined with the fashion and other areas. By fabricating the pattern of jewel cutting form and jewelry and introducing it to the fashion, the possibility of beauty and design.
This study has been able to the fashion design to give aesthetic formativeness and different functionalities combining the fashion and jewelry through the fashion design using jewel cutting form. It is meaningful by the fact that new direction has been suggested for the expression technique of jewel and jewelry with multiple applications were fabricated and adopted to the fashion. I hope this study will be helpful in creating and developing creative design and different-style fashion designs using the formative aesthetic of jewel cutting form.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인류가 시작된 이래로 사람들은 개인의 취향과 이미지를 돋보이기 위해 아름답고 귀한 가치를 지니는 대상들을 이용하여 자신을 꾸미고 장식하려는 노력을 지속해 오고 있다. 보석은 경제적 가치와 함께 예술적인 가치를 지닌 장신구로 사용되어 왔으며, 사람들의 미적 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 끊임없이 개발되고 있다. 보석은 오랜 기간 고안된 커트 방법으로 고유의 광채와 색상의 아름다움이 극대화될 뿐만 아니라, 커트 형상만의 조형미만으로도 독창적인 아름다움을 지니고 있다.
그러므로 본 연구는 이러한 보석 커트 형상의 조형성을 의상에 도입하여 새로운 표현 기법으로 독창적인 디자인을 전개하고 그 작품을 제작하는 것을 목적으로 하였다.
연구 방법은 이론적 연구를 통해 보석의 기본적인 지식을 습득하고, 보석 커트 형상을 활용한 패션디자인의 사례 분석은 전문서적 및 논문이나 각종 기사 등 문헌 자료를 중심으로 하였으며, 패션 컬렉션 분석은 2005년 S/S부터 2015년S/S까지 나타난 Ready-to-wear 컬렉션을 대상으로 진행하였다.
패션 디자인에 활동되거나 나타난 보석 커트 형상은 라운드 커트, 에메랄드 커트, 페어 커트, 오벌 커트, 마퀴즈 커트, 하트 커트 등 6종의 커트가 주로 활용되었다. 이들 6가지 보석 커트 유형이 활용된 패션 디자인을 특성을 파악하기 위해 실루엣과 스타일 별로 분석하였다.
보석 커트 형상이 활용된 패션디자인의 특징은 모던한 실루엣과 블랙 색상이 주로 사용되었으며, 보석 장식과 광택 있는 소재를 사용하여 화려하고 여성스러운 이미지가 주로 표현되었다. 그 외에도 의상에 보석을 직접 장식한 경우도 있었는데, 주로 일반적인 보석 세팅 방법으로 표현되었다.
분석된 자료를 기반으로 라운드 커트, 에메랄드 커트, 오벌 커트, 페어 커트 4가지 커트 형상을 선정하여 이를 활용한 8벌의 의상을 제작하였다.
작품에는 모던한 스트레이트 실루엣과 여성미를 강조한 아워 글래스 실루엣을 사용하였으며, 색채는 블랙 색상과 화이트 색상, 베이지 색상을 사용하여 차분하며 우아한 이미지를 연출하고자 하였다. 보석 커트 형상은 레이저 커팅 기법을 사용하여 패턴 디자인으로 재해석하였다. 주 소재로 사용한 레더 소재의 밋밋한 표면에 새겨진 보석 커트 형상의 레이져 패턴은 더 선명하게 부각되어 보이고, 의상의 다양한 연출을 위해 의상의 연결 부위 등에 직접 보석을 사용하도록 주얼리도 제작하였다.
이상과 같은 연구 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다.
첫째, 의상과 주얼리를 결합하여 패션디자인에 새로운 표현 기법으로 제시하여 다각적인 연출 가능성을 모색하였다. 주얼리가 의상의 연결고리가 되어 탈착 시 옷의 실루엣이 변화되고, 연결고리를 다른 형상의 주얼리로 교체할 수 있어 다양한 이미지를 위한 맞춤형 연출이 가능하였다.
둘째, 보석 장신구는 패션을 완성시키고 다양한 스타일의 연출과 이미지 변화에 효과적인 요소가 될 수 있다는 것을 알았다. 보석 커트 형상이 활용된 패션디자인의 분석을 통해 보석 장식의 유무(有無)에 따라 분위기 차이가 극적으로 대비되는 경우가 많은 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
셋째, 보석 커트 형상의 미적 조형성은 의상뿐만 아니라 다방면의 분야와도 결합할 수 있다는 폭넓은 가능성을 제시하였다. 보석 커트 형상의 패턴과 주얼리를 제작하여 의상에 도입함으로써 그 아름다움과 디자인의 가능성을 확인하였다.
본 연구는 보석 커트 형상을 활용한 의상디자인을 통하여 패션과 주얼리를 결합한 미적 조형성과 다양한 기능성을 부여한 패션 디자인을 제시할 수 있었다. 이는 패션에 활용된 보석의 표현 기법에 대한 새로운 방향성을 제시하고, 다양한 연출이 가능한 주얼리를 제작하여 의상에 도입하였다는 것에 의의가 있다. 본 연구를 계기로 보석 커트 형상의 조형미를 활용한 다양한 스타일의 패션디자인 제작과 창의적인 디자인 창출과 개발에 도움이 되길 기대한다.
